Great, thank you very much, especially for the 10s fix for the delay in >=win8 :)
Nevertheless, I still experience a little delay when installing the w8keys-addon, so I decided to not install it.

On another note, with your tightencoder-fixes, and newly added encoder XZ,XZYW, plus the immense number of other options,
I wanted to ask you:
For our very low bandwidth shops, we normally use ZRLE, with the following connection options:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5mLwu ... kRaaXplYjQ
On the serverside, we disabled the turbomode (since all PCs have good hardware).

Now to my questions :)
Which encoder do you now (with v1.2.09) recommend for very low bandwidth?
Also, for that encoder, what settings would you recommend (copyrect, cache encoding, zip/tight compression/quality) ?

Help would be very much appreciated! Thanks again for the new version!

It's hard to tell there is no general config

compress <-> send<->decompress
The harder you compress the longer it takes to compress, but the faster the send happens
You need to experiment to see how it behave in your case.

zrle vs tight
Tight use jpeg compression for images. This part of the tight encoder has been optimized.
If your screen contain a lot of "not solid color parts" then jpeg compress better and tight is faster the zrle.

zrle: pure windows with text
tight: if you also have a lot of images on the screen

Hi,

I've been trying to install 1.2.0.9 x64 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 and I keep getting an error message "This program does not support the version of Windows your computer is running". Is 1.2.0.9 x64 supported on Win Server 2003 R2?

Thanks

Thank you for your work Rudi.

I made a quick test on XP 32, just replacing old exe's and found that 1209 is always visible on tray ( DisableTrayIcon=1 is present in ini file ), and uvnc_settings show this option as active.
No problem like this in w7, w8.1 x64

Thank you very much for the new release!

I'd like to contribute something, but I'm not sure how (never got the crashdump version working). I still experience the viewer crashes using v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64 connecting to v1.2.0.6 server @ Win7 x64 (tried to describe it here https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.ph ... 434#p98983). Every 4 Minutes the viewer crashes (it's around 3:45 minutes to 4:15 minutes of connection time) - it is 100% predictable and exception-code is always 0xc0000409. Using the Windows Error Reporting I created three Mini-Dumps https://app.box.com/s/m907z29b60bjssz97mfaejky4h9dbvv7
(( I don't see these viewer crashes using v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64 connecting to v1.2.0.9 server @ Win8.1 x64. ))
Is there anything else I could do to support you regarding these crashes?

For the crashdump versions i saved the debug symbol in a special folder because you only can analyse
crashdumps with the symbol file generate when you created that exe.

I don't know if i can analyse this debug files.
If not, i need to send you a new viewer exe where i keep the symbol debug files in a save spot.

Looks like the crash happen with rfbSetEncodings()
This function is called each time a encoder switch is set manual or auto ( if encoder is auto selected)

All minidumps show the crash in the same function
WriteExact((char *)buf, sz_rfb... a minidump doesn't have parameter valuee's, but i'm almost sure that
that the buffer size is set smaller then number of supported encoder/pseudo encoders .
A patch added in 1206 increased the encoders... possible i calculated the required new size incorrect.
If that's the case the solution is to increase the buffer...

Increased buffer and recompiled

Wooha! Connection time > 30 Minutes. You found it! :)
Do you intend to update the downloads (or perhaps the bins.zip)? *please*

After 10 Minutes I started switching between AutoSelectBestSettings and ZRLE / Tight / Hextile / u2 / ... and found another bug: switching to u2 or Ultra => cursor vanishes (only tiny dot remains); switching to any other encoder => cursor is back.
This only happens using v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64 connecting to v1.2.0.6 server @ Win7 x64 - it does NOT happen using v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64 connecting to v1.2.0.9 server @ Win8.1 x64. (The released v1.2.0.9 viewer and your bug-fix update both let the cursor vanish @ u2/Ultra.)

UPDATE: The cursor thing is getting weird. Selecting Ultra / u2 => cursor vanishes => Lock remote Computer (Windows Lock Screen) => cursor returns => unlock remote Computer (back on windows desktop) => cursor vanishes. Is it a v1.2.0.6 server bug?

There was an issue issue fixed in 1208, for u2 and cursor.
I gonna recompile all viewers and make updates of all installers and bin zip.

Minidumps are realy the way to fix stuff... tahnks.

Thank you very much for the updated installer!

( Regarding the cursor-problem with u2/ Ultra: I'll update the ultravnc server on that machine and repeat testing...will report back in the next days. )

While testing the updated v1.2.0.9 I had only one single crash of the viewer (mupltiple vnc sessions with 30-60 minutes connection time until now)...you said minidumps help, so here you go: https://app.box.com/s/qnr1pjix6z6lf4hv3e2ez6d1y3chqsqg (v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64 connecting to v1.2.0.6 server @ Win7 x64; crash happened on simple "copy to clipboard on remote machine"...until now I couldn't repeat this crash)

Re: 1.2.0.9

reuploaded all installer/bins
viewer modified again 1.2.0.9u2 ( in about box)

Crash was at same spot ( buffer overflow)
*buffer size ok
cause: preffered encoder list was becoming bigger and bigger
using auto encoder select and with a bandwidth between 10000 and 256 and not going lower or higher for at least a few minutes
the encoder list could grow and become bigger then the buffer.
Forgot to add a clear() pref encoder before adding the new one.

I think this is already a few versions in the src code, but very hard to trace... minidump showed 17 pref encoders while it should only be one.

Rudi De Vos wrote:reuploaded all installer/bins

Just downloaded the new files (Uvnc_1209_bin.zip) and Viewer says "UltraVNC Viewer 1.2.0.9u1 / Built: Nov 8 2015 21:57:43" - not sure about the "u1", thought the built timestamp looks good...? (I'm just asking to make sure using the current version r970? in my tests.)

Nevertheless: Testing starts... :)

Gurus,

I noticed below with 1.2.0.9 (64bit) connecting to same version server:

1. "Auto select best settings" option is saved in .vnc file (autodetect=0/1), but not acted on when starting viewer.
It always start with "Auto select" checked.
2. Toolbar icons have changed to Windows 10 style - I kind of miss (like) previous style.
Not feasible to allow for user selection?

Thank you for your hard work and contribution.

Just a short feedback: had a few vnc sessions (some a few minutes and others 5+ hours) and not one single hickup/viewer/server-crash - nothing! :D

And the tiny dot-cursor-problem: haven't seen it with the new version - it only happens using u2 / Ultra connection to an older Server like 1.2.0.5 or 1.2.0.6. In a few days I'll update all PCs to 1.2.0.9 and this annoying dot-cursor will be gone. 8)

I noticed Dborth's issue from 1.2.0.8 is still happening. I haven't re-attached his/her screen shot from their original post.

Here's their post:

I've been trying this version out (server) and it seems to be working great! Except for one problem...I'm using Windows Server 2012 R2 with the "system hookdll" enabled and see some black artifacts on screen updates when moving windows around. If I disable the system hook dll, the artifacts go away but the performance is much worse. Here's a picture, you can see the RDP on the left is fine and the VNC connection isn't updating properly.

For me it looks like you need three settings:
QuickOption=8 < manual mode
preferred_encoding=10 < your encoding (5=Hextile / 10 = u2 = Ultra2 / 16=ZRLE / 7=Tight / ...)
autoDetect=0

artifacts: Can you check if you still have them when copyrect encoding ( viewer option ) is disabled.

This update we have focussed on the stability, next one we gonna see what can be made more user friendly
and things like artifacts.

buttons bitmaps:
Perhaps i make them depend on the current OS.
Keep old for win7<, new for win8>
Not an urgent issue and perhaps after a month people only want the new ones :)

Thank you for the hint.
I found that once you start viewer with <Quick Options> set to AUTO and save configuration to .vnc, then file's QuickOption=1 sticks and unchecking <Auto Select...> in viewer's Connection Options tool and saving to .vnc does not disable <Auto Select...>.
A bit confusing, but it works for me now that I know what to do.

Had another crash, this time it seems to be the DSM Plugin (0xc0000005 @ SecureVNCPlugin64.dsm): https://app.box.com/s/ha279u0gd8xwpb3jk4gccgpchymxw3m2 (v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64 connecting to v1.2.0.9 x64 viewer @ Win8.1 x64; for now I can't reproduce that crash and it occured only one time, but perhaps the minidump has something usable?)
Rudi De Vos wrote:buttons bitmaps:

For what it's worth: I really like them and they give the toolbar a fresh look. (Perhaps they have a win10-like touch, but that doesn't bother; perhaps they look unfamiliar at first, but for me they are meaningful + nice.) Would keep them as they are (regardless of the current os)...

For the next update with user-friendly improvements I have wish: There seems to be a viewer "bug" in the AutoScaling- + Scaling-Function of the viewer (directx=0). If the server is configured to send both/two displays (by default) the viewer window height never uses the available screen-height (doesn't matter if AutoScaling is enabled or Scaling with 85% / 80% / 70% ...). There is always a vertical scroll bar shown and I have to resize the window height to see the complete remote display height + remove the vertical scroll bar of the viewer window (horizontal scroll bar is fine, of course, because the two remote displays can't fit the local screen). [On the other hand: AutoScaling/Scaling of the viewer works perfect if the remote server shows/sends only one display by default.]
