SC20 and Win98 blank screen
SC20 and Win98 blank screen
When remote WinXP or 2k machines connect to me, they work fine. When remote Win 98 machines connect to me, I just get a black screen with my mouse. The person at the server machine can see me move my mouse around, but clicking or keystrokes do anything. However, chat does work.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

SC20 and Win98 blank screen
I've followed all the faqs that I can find, and can not solve this same problem. I've used both forms of creator, the UltraVNC viewer, and the special viewer from the creator page.
Using the first creator off the web page, I get very little interaction. Using the second creator UltraVncSC based on RC20 (OK), I get a blank screen, but the server cursor follows the viewer, clicks are recognized, and chat works. I've watched the comms, and I always have activity from the viewer to the server, but I have no activity returned from the server to the viewer after the initial connection. After a short amount of time (maybe a timeout) the server shuts down, if I am guessing correctly, from inactivity on the server side)
I'm a little confused as to the remark about updating 20 to 20.3. All I've worked with is the Creator web screen. Where is SC20.3?
Server: WIN98SE, viewer XP-Pro. Connection through DSL in same room, and DUN to DSL.
As Always,
Dave

well,
you MUST use creator AGAIN for UPDATING your customized SC
(example SingleClick.zip give you back new SingleClick.exe)
use only part of creator:
"UltraVncSC based on RC20+accept incoming connection
Require special Viewer (TO TEST) or Viewer RC203
SC updated for win98, alpha blending disabled on 9.x"
http://www.uvnc.com/index.php?section=19
give the updated file created with SC20.3 (not SC20 !) to yours friends, family, customers...
delete files from C:\temp and/or C:\windows\temp of Windows 98 maybe was remember old settings was self extrated from your personal SC tools.

Still no go
I've done as instructed in your last post. I've also turned the configuration around, using the WIN98SE machine as the viewer and the XP-Pro as the SC Server. Downloaded the special viewer software to the 98SE machine, cleared the cache and rebuilt.
I've also used the create function on the WIN98SE machine to see if that would make a difference, but I don't see how as the file is being created on your web server.
The SC icon in the tray remains browned out until I accept the incoming connection, then turns green. After that, it doesn't respond to clicks or right clicks. When I hover over the icon, the balloon shows "WINVNC - listening."
What next? I'm at your beck and command.

Strange behavior
That's OK, I appreciate all of your help so far.
This is strange, as UltraVNC works just fine as the standard server listener configuration. Not sure why SC would refuse.
Current config.
WIN98SE running Special Viewer (to test)
XP-Pro running SC from "Create"
Create has been both from XP-PRO and 98SE and tested both ways.
There is some handshaking going on as the tray icon on the SC machine changes color after the viewer accepts the connection. The message comes up that my machine is being viewed by another machine.
Moving the mouse on viewer generates network traffic but no change on viewer. Moving mouse on SC generates no network traffic.
Would you like to try connecting to my machine from your machine?

Do you use win98Se as viewer too ?
if not want do you want, is normal is'nt work.
SC.exe (you created only one for everyone but don't need to be created from win98se os)
helpdesk.txt need only take care correct IP or hostname internal use LAN (intranet)
or
DynamicDNS or static IP if used from outside your network WAN (Internet)
host: (customer, friend, family..)
win98 or another system...
start SC.exe (need help from you)
(don't start vncviewer in listen mode on this computer need help or you broken your effort )
viewer: (you, Willickers)
winxp start viewer in listen mode ready for help customer started SC.exe from LAN or WAN
(depend of your helpdesk.txt was created and if you open port your router like 5500 (default port for viewer in listen mode at your side (helper) only for support over WAN (Internet) don't need for only internal usage Local Area Network
correct: (only need started on viewer side, you)
"C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -listen
wrong:
vncviewer -listen
but a bug freeze SC20.3 if normal winvnc are started on same computer.. but I did'nt find the message again...sorry.
It is a better explanation, help ? not confused ?

SC and VNC Viewer
port forwarding and IP addresses all work fine. The only thing that I can see different is that I am calling out the port that I am listening on: vncviewer.exe -listen 5800.
Note that this all works with the old SC, moving my mouse on the viewer screen moves it on the SC server. Clicking on the viewer screen clicks on the SC server. Hovering my mouse over the edge of a window on the SC server causes the mouse cursor to change shape on the viewer. I just don't get a screen shot, so I don't know what I am doing or clicking.
When I use the newer version, I don't get any of this, although I know that they are connecting as I see the change in the SC server tray icon from brown to green when I accept the connection at the viewer.

Same issue... I'm confused. There are no version numbers on UltraVNC SC or UltraVNC Viewer. I can't find anywhere a version 20.3 ... I have a screen shot of a "Black Screen" connection to Windows ME ...
Can we have explicit click-by-click instructions on how to produce a UltraVNC SC executable compatible with Windows 98/ME/2K/XP/2K3 ? Then explicit instructions on where to get the compible viewer?

Blank Screen
I too have the same problem.
I have tried the viewer & "special viewer" & still receive a blank/black screen on the PC running the Viewer in listen mode(W2K Pro). Both viewers report the same version; 1.0.0.20, one 772KB & the other is 928KB. The keyboard & mouse do respond. I have have tried both methods of creating the "SC.exe" with the same results.
I also tried connecting from 9x to 9x...same results.
The exe file created with this option "UltraVncSC based on RC20+accept incoming connection Require special Viewer (TO TEST) or Viewer RC203 SC updated for win98, alpha blending disabled on 9.x" crashes after dbl clicking the menu item to start the session.
Thanks,
Charlie

I also had this same problem with SC today as picture above shows.
This problem has appeared only on one computer (Windows ME). All other connections works fine (well, to be honest, i still havent got rid off those black rectangles, but this is not the issue in here).
I can copy&paste to remote machine (mouse&keyboard input works fine), but can't see remote side screen.
I don't recall the SC version, but when i look properties, winvnc.exe shows fileversion 1.0.0.18 and vnchooks.dll shows 3.3.6.0
I think this is an issue with remote machine and SC.
