BUG: Chat window should not close on both sides automaticall

Post by dswhite42 »

Related to the chat functionality, I believe it should be considered a bug that when one person closes their chat window, the window disappears on BOTH the local and remote window. No other chat system I know of (Facebook chat, Trillian, AIM, WebEx, etc.) works in this way. If the chat window on one computer is closed, it should remain open on the other remote computer until that user also closes it.
  • First, just because person #1 is finished with the chat doesn't mean that person #2 is also finished with the contents of the chat window. He may want to copy it somewhere, save it for later, etc. Having it suddenly disappear because person #1 closed the chat session on his end is a serious annoyance.

  • But worse than that, the effect can be downright harmful. If person #2 continues typing in the chat window, but person #1 closes the window on his end, the keystrokes that person #1 continues to type will be transferred to whatever window takes the focus when the chat window disappears. This could have unwanted, potentially serious implications.
Therefore, when clicking "close" or pressing ESC, please cause that to affect the chat window only of that client, not both clients.

Thank you.
