Windows8 Very Slow

I just installed UltraVnc 64 bit on (2) W8 HP laptops with the dreaded AMD Ratheon video card (the one that crashes Microsoft Train Simulator, but that's another story). I can connect to them OK, but it usually takes 30 seconds to a minute to respond.
I've confirmed I have v1.1.9.6 64b installed and running with the w8hook64.dll .
Can anybody give me some suggestions on how to fix this?

P.S. I also have UltraVnc 64 bit installed on a W7 box and UltraVnc 32 bit installed on an XP box, both without a response issue.
