knowing session ID remotely

Post by mutsuura »

After significant effort I successfully managed to establish a connection from my local computer to a remote computer via ChunkVNC's repeater. A significant part of my problem was resolving port forwarding. However, after I resolved that [2nd to last] hurdle I left with one more... session ID from remote.

If my target destination machine shuts down and restarts InstandSupport.exe it will generate a new session ID with which to connect to it from remote computers.

Question if/when that happens how are remote computers to know what that new session ID is so we can re-establish a new connection?

thx in advance

Use the tray icon to install as a service.

If you have access to the repeater, open the log file and it will show the ID.

It is also fairly simple to edit the InstantSupport code so it always uses the same ID... that may not work for more general cases but may be another solution for you to consider.

Generally installing as a service works quite reliably although it's probably not recommended for long term use. You also need to keep in mind possible IP address changes at the repeater... sometimes happens while the service is running (say) over night depending on what repeater is used and where it is is hosted.
