Compile error?

Post by itdougs »

I am using:
ChunkVNC 3.3.1
Windows 7 Enterprise with all updates

I was trying to set up ChunkVNC on a Windows 7 Enterprise network, and I've encountered a problem compiling the server and viewer portions of the program. I followed the instructions. I put the Repeater on a dedicated machine. Then with the machine's IP address and the WAN address, I entered all the necessary information, then clicked on the Compile! button. Then a couple of configuration windows popped up for a couple of seconds, then after an interval an error message appeared, saying:

"Compile failed: SecureVNC Plugin failed to configure. Please compile again."

Neither InstantSupport nor the Viewer files appeared. I searched the site for a similar issue, and tried uninstalling the Compiler and deleting the associated files. Then I downl;oaded a fresh copy of Chunk VNC 3.3.1 and tried compiling again. I still got the same results. can anyone help me, please?

Interesting, I put that error catch in there but I've never actually heard someone seeing it!

Basically what this means is the compiler checked the ultravnc.ini file and it didn't see the securevnc generated key.

Have you tried compiling on another computer?
Have you made any changes to the default install (ie changing the install directory)?

I just figured it out. My computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows 7, and it has 2 Program Files folders: Program Files for 64-bit apps, and Program Files (x86) for 32-bit apps. ChunkVNC was probably coded with just the Program Files folder, so I uninstalled it from the x86 folder and installed it in the other one. Then the compile worked without any problems.

I had the same issue - uninstalled it from Program Files x86 and re-installed into Program Files. The problem is that I am still getting the "Compile Failed: SecureVNC plugin failed to configure" error. I had performed a clean install of UltraVNC 1.1.9.3 previously which I have uninstalled now. This is the first time I installed both apps on my Win 7 x64 PC. Any help greatly appreciated.

Update:
I installed ChunkVNC on a Win 8 PC and it seems to install and compile correctly. Only problem is atht I need to be able to compile on the Win 7 PC. I assume that somehow even though I've uninstaleld UltraVNC completely, it has left something behind which I need to remove. Please let me know if I am on the right path and where to find the file(s) that need to be deleted. Thanks again.

I think I spoke too soon. It had no trouble compiling the Viewer, but apparently I noticed that there was another sequence where it compiles the InstantSupport.exe file. And that one brought up the same compile error as mentioned previously. What is going on here?
