[SOLVED] connection issues

Post by asheenlevrai »

Hello everyone,

I usually use uVNC at work where it is installed on all our Windows machines. It works flawlessly and I am very happy with it. We have Win7, OSX and Ubuntu machines and uVNC deals well with remote desktop software integrated in OSX/Ubuntu and vice versa...

Recently I tried using uVNC at home since we have now 2 windows 7 laptops and a macbook... I performed all the installations and setup the same way I usually do at work. However, for some reason, I experience issues.

1) using OSX remote desktop software I can access both the windows laptops.
2) I can ping any laptop or the router from both windows laptops.

However,
- I can't connect to any laptop (including the macbook) from any of the windows laptops using uVNC (failed to connect to server)
- I can't connect to any laptop when replacing the IP of the target by "computername.local"... This usually work for me with the same setup... (apple bonjour print service installed, I don't know if this is related...)

I don't know how to troubleshoot this any further...
Thoughts?
Best,
-a-

1) @work you have a dns server, ( dns= name/ip resolution). @home you don't have a dns server, so you can't use names
Something need to tell your pc that nameA correspond with ip a.b.c.d.
This is not something specific for VNC, vnc use the OS buildin name resolution. If you try to ping an ip address it wil also fail.

Try with the ip adress ( the address you see when hover over the systray) and disable the firewall for testing.
Sometimes you need to manual allow vnc to pass the firewall

Thanks :)
I thought Apple bonjour print service was taking care of making sure computers could recognize each others through .local hostnames....

Using IP addresses didn't work neither. I will try disabling windows firewall to see if I get better results :)

manually allowing uVNC through windows firewall fixed the problem :)
Now I can connect both using IP or ".local" names

Tx again for your help
