Win7 x64 & Win2K8 R2

I'm missing something or I am completely daft! I've installed the current version on a Win7 x64 desktop and my Win2K8 R2 server. I've been able to establish a connection with MS Logon's, but I cannot click or get a CAD sent. I've been reading posts for the better part of a day (yesterday) and can't find where the heck I need to do to make this work. I've tried registry edits, turning UAC back on, etc... Nothing works! I was excited when I read about using the On-Screen Keyboard as an option, except that I can't click it.

I would be EXTREMELY grateful if someone could actually tell me if UVNC is going to work or not. I need a non-RDP solution!!!

Ultravnc use the sendsas function

*authenticode is always OK, that's the digital signing
*defauft install path is in a subfolder of program files OK
*registry changes, Verify it manual or run setcad.exe
You can run setcad.exe ( use runas admin) to make the reg changes.
Use the version from 1.1.8.x it's in (UVNC_1_1_8_win8_X86_X64.zip)

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I'm either so frustrated I'm missing something, but here's what I've done.

1. I've modified my Global Policy per the MS instructions. It is now "Enabled" and for both Services and Ease of Access Applications.

2. I've run setcad (as Administrator).

3. There were competing posts, but I've gone ahead and put cad.exe and sas.dll on the server.

Nothing appears to allow me to click or send CAD to the server. About the only thing working brilliantly right now is the MS Logon function. Call me kooky, but with the number of issues I see this causing, it might be really helpful for someone to put together a succinct guide how to work around this.

Any other thoughts or advice? Thanks much!

The installer install all required components, even registry settings for software cad are proper set. ( 1.1.8.x)
When UAC is active during install it works without the need to modify or copy any file or setting.

The trouble start when UAC is off. If UAC is off the manifest of the exe is ignored.
Secure folders like program files and system32 doesn't exist. WIth UAC off, some
software functions are disabled... sorry, but that's how MS implemented it.

Try
0) Make sure the service is not running ( net stop uvnc_service)
1) remove sas.dll and cad.exe from the ultravnc folder
2) copy winvnc.exe to a temp folder
3) delete winvnc in the ultravnc folder
4) Make sure UAC is on and copy it back to the ultravnc folder.
During copy UAC ask permission, this set the special bit on the exe
5) net start uvnc service

Everything was fine until Step 4. I never got the question, nor did it work. So, based on what I've read, I went ahead and uninstalled UltraVNC one more time and re-installed. The primary difference being that UAC was turned back on already. Now it appears to be working fine!

The UAC MS hell

Any idea how we can proper add a note for this.
For me some things are obvious, so my notes doesn't make sense to most users.

Here are my suggestions.

• 1. When someone starts the installer, I would provide a simple note that explains what uVNC requires to function.
  2. During the installation, I would have the installer check the UAC status.
  3. If UAC is enabled, all is well but the users should be told not to disable it if it will break uVNC.
  4. If UAC is disabled, then do whatever is necessary to make uVNC work without it, if possible.

Ultimately, the best advice for someone wanting to get it to work fast is simply to turn UAC on and install uVNC. Now, if there is a way to make it work without UAC, I want to know about it as a user. I can decide if it is too much of a hassle or if it's worth the time.
