Viewer opens on wrong monitor

Post by bitoclass »

I had this same problem years ago, but since a recent change of resolution of some of the involved screens, it's back!

When I launch UltraVNC Viewer, on my Windows 8 PC, it always opens on my secondary monitor, which is positioned to the left of my primary one, but is usually switched off, so it's extremely tedious having to keep moving the window onto my primary monitor. I've tried my own fix from that other thread (which was already in place) and no matter what I set the 'selectedscreen' value to, the same thing happens.

Can anyone please help me force the UltraVNC Viewer to open on my primary monitor, before I have to give up on it completely and switch to something else for the first time? Thanks!

When you start the viewer you can select the monitor that's used the display the viewer on. You don't have the dropdown box for it ?
Make your selection, set [v]save as default and connect.
Next time it use your defaults.

Thanks anyway (I think the dropdown is just an interface to the selectedscreen value in the options file, so had the same problem) but I have unexpectedly resolved this odd problem now.

I first completely disabled my second display in Control Panel, then launched UltraVNC Viewer, which of course opened on the remaining display. I then closed this, then re-enabled the second display in Control Panel, then finally edited the C:\Users\[my username]\AppData\Roaming\UltraVNC\options.vnc file to contain selectedscreen=2, where 2 was the number on my primary monitor in Control Panel.

Even though that's the same option I'd tried before, it seems the Control Panel toggling has solved the problem, for now at least!
