Alias doesn't work... newbie needs help!

Post by Zalu »

Hi everyone,

Some questions:
I configured sc several times to test it and to learn more about the configuration.

My first internal test was successful. My helpdesk.txt looked like this

Code: Select all

...
[HOST]
Internet support
-connect 192.168.0.69:5500 -noregistry
...
I got the exe file and started it on our 192.168.0.75. My listening viewer poped up and everthing worked fine!

My second test was not successful.
I configured the helpdesk.txt like this

Code: Select all

...
[HOST]
Internet support
-connect server.brunie.com:5500 -noregistry
...
I set up my router to forward port 5500 to my ip (192.168.0.69). My Viewer is on listing mode on port 5500.

Then I startet the new exe file on the ~.0.75. But nothing happend on my Computer.

What went wrong?

Greetz

Just try :

telnet server.brunie.com 5500

to check if you get the correct routing.

Did you try using your actual WAN (internet) IP address in the help file?

I've used SC on an Internal network and across routers and firewalls and it works fine. Haven't tried an actual name to connect.

[HOST]
Internet support
-connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5500 -noregistry

myhome -- NAT router -- Internet -- NAT router -- myhome
did you try this way ?

Possible from factory on only some NAT router like Netopia cayman 3300 serie (tested)
but not ZyXEL Prestige 600 serie at factory (need some file modification in hosts file computer for do same as Netopia but risky error can make lookup and unattended error)

Netopia check 1st internal table hostname instead of IP adresse for resolve name DHCP and dynamicdns
ZyXEL use only her table IP adresse only for resolve computer host with DHCP

easy answer:
  • with Zyxel, basically you can't test your SC with DDNS on local network (failed test)
  • with Netopia, it possible to test your SC with your DDNS on your local network (tested successfully)
I don't know is a good help ! :|
