Post by Joe Maher »

Hi,

I just saw SC today and tried --- generate with creator and used viewer from creator.

Get message in viewer that says dsmplugin is needed.

I changed helpdesk.txt for [DIRECT] and no plugin ...
still get error.

What have I done wrong.

If this is not the place for ?s please let me know.

Thanks,

Joe

cut and past your helpdesk.txt and we can tell you...you most likely included the -plugin switch. Don't do this.

please review your viewer startup

if your viewer stay in folder like C:\program files\UltraVNC

start ... Run...
wrong: viewer -listen 5500
correct: "C:\program files\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -listen 5500
(important: full UNC path)

If you on the "Listening" computer see a message that says

Connection failed - invalid protocol

with a list of 4 possible causes..

check your DSM plugin for your listener... from what your helpdesk.txt file says.. you dont have a DSM plugin being used.... so the only cause is on your listener side.

if your link for listening has -
"C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -listen -DSM DSMplugin

in it, then it will fail since your SC users are not using the DSM...

you could also try turning off the DSM plugin for your server because it may be doing something with the "Viewer" key file.

Kinda works

Post by Joe Maher »

Thanks all for the replies.

I generated a new SC to reference the viewer on the local net (i.e 192.168 ...).

It works. I am using the vncviewer from the SC create site.

I generated another SC with a inet url xxxxx:5500. I does not work from the local net. It does work from outside it!

The error is always the check dsm with 4 options.

With how we are set-up now, a local SC and a 'remote' SC, we can test SC.

Again thanks for the replies.

for test SC from outside with DDNS contacting your home at myhost.dyndns.org
(this account must be correctly validated inside your router under ddns account OR your computer home with client ddns

If you have a firewall in your router (hardware) or/and a windows firewall (software), you must open port 5500 for your listen viewer can accept incoming call at 192.168.1.x from SC outside of your network like your friend/familly/customer !

if it doesnt work from inside

you need to compile 2 SC's. One for outside and one for inside. Your router or firewall is blocking it from going out and going back in.

If you create one with your outside address and give this to those that are outside of your network that will work for them. Anyone inside your network gets the other SC that just uses IP or hostnames if you have netbios or DNS running.
