Cannot connect with host name

Post by glen4cindy »

Hello.

I'm trying to get things configured so I can get SC to work, but, I want to get everything working first, so I know if I have problems where the problem lies where to start.

If I double click on my viewer, and choose the IP and port I have the server running on, everything works fine, ie 192.168.2.137::5510. This tells me that I have port forwarding
in the router set correctly, at least I think it does.

However, here is where the problem begins. I use Dyndns.org so I can connect from outside without knowing my IP. I've used this in the past, but, it has been awhile since I've
done anything with it. I've made sure my account is current, so I know that isn't the issue.

I first put my Dyndns hostname into the server box. ie: xxxxxxxxx.dyndns-free.org::5510. But, it fails to connect. Now, the issue seems to be, that there are 0 transmitted packets
and 0 received packets. That seems unusual. I can, however, ping xxxxxxxxx.dyndns-free.org and I get a response back that says Reply from 97.92.xxx.xxx that corresponds to my
IP.

I'd appreciate anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Since the 192.168.2.137 is a LAN IP, that means your test was done inside the local network, this doesn't require any port forwarding action at the router, so this doesn't imply the router have a proper port forwarding setting.

On the other hand, you can ping the WAN IP address of the router, but not able to VNC to the server, most likely i.e. that case of Port Forwarding problem, or blocked by Firewall.

You should make sure:
1. the router has the definition of port forwarding, such that:
  port 5510 (forward to ===>) 192.168.2.137:5510

2. If there are any firewall in your LAN or router, it must not block the VNC signal

I'm pretty certain I have done that, as referenced in the photo I have linked to below, assuming the link works.

Thanks for the speedy reply.
