Windows 8

Post by sirius87 »

Hi,

I'm using UltraVNC 1.1.1 32-bit WinXP build on a Windows Server 2012 box (nearly the same as Windows 8). The installation of the addon (with the w8/mirror driver) - UltraVNC_1_1_1_Addons - fails with the message:
C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\driver\ setupdrv.exe

Code: Select all

CreateProcess failed; code 267
The directory name is invalid
Earlier, I had installed the latest 1.1.2 64-bit Beta build, but there was an issue with keystrokes. Switching to the old 32bit build worked fine, but even now, keystrokes are sometimes missed or not transferred fast enough to the remote machine.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

The xp version doesn't support the desktop duplication engine. ( This is the MS replacement for mirror drivers)
I did some test with the mirror driver on win8, and it seems to work, the only problem is that MS tell it doesn't work LOL

1) x64 OS require x64 drivers
2) w32 app can not communicate with x64 driver
3) Current mirror driver installer doesn't work on win8

Keyboard issue's
The old method is fine for all keys except the alt-tab and other special keys.
The new method function with thoose keys, but seems to have trouble with logon/UAC
The methods only differ in security....but MS doesn't allow to set both at the same time.

Still testing...

Hi Rudi,

Thanks for the quick response.

The only issue I faced with the x64 drivers was the keyboard input problem. The display seemed fine. I had UAC turned on, and it didn't seem to take any keystrokes. I had set the machine to auto-login into an account, so I wasn't stuck at the logon screen. But the keystrokes didn't work even on desktop. I didn't try with UAC turned off though.

About x86 WinXP, display and input work, more or less, fine for me. Just the x86-addon mirror driver installer is failing. Is there a way to manually install the driver using the INF or something?

Thanks for your help!

Err...with x86 VNC setup shows a black screen after leaving it running for some time, so it's not without issues. Ideally, I would like to have the x64 set up with the new w8 driver, but the keyboard issue is a blocker.

Code: Select all

2) w32 app can not communicate with x64 driver
You can not install a w32 driver on a x64 OS.
You can not use a win32 vnc app with the x64 mirror driver.

manual install not possible.
