Dual Monitor problem

Post by jeffw_00 »

Hi - I love UltraVNC. But at home my desktop PC is setup in a dual-monitor configuration. When I VNC to it, I see only the 1st monitor, but when I try to open some applications (often Windows Explorer), they often appear on the 2nd (unseen) monitor because that's where they were located last time I used them. Other than going into the control panel and changing the setup on the remote (home) to single monitor every time I VNC to it, is there any other solution?

Thanks!
/j

(ps - if it helps I often have dual monitors on the local machine I'm using to VNC to my home machine)

you have to option to see
primary monitor
all monitors
This is done by a button on the viewer "Switch Monitor "

Hi Rudi - thanks, I think you mean the top toolbar button "Select Full Desktop/Switch Monitor (driver only)"? I have played with this, and I wonder if I see the correct behavior.

Usually, when it tries to give me the 2nd monitor it just gives me a black screen, and if I disconnect I cannot reconnect without having someone reboot the remote machine. if I double-click it, sometimes I get the 2nd monitor, and it works, but more often I get a full screen, and I can "switch" between monitors via the bottom scroll bar. But it's not deterministic.

How can I get past the black screen when I get it? I have looked in the documentation but there is little explanation there.

Also - I am running 1.0.8.2 because of an old issue that I don't have any more. Should I upgrade both sides? To what version? (this may be a fix?)

The remote machine is WINXP and the local machine is WIN7, if that matters.

THANKS!

remote machine: this is OS independed, a viewer is like a video player
Dual monitor behave different when used with or without driver.
driver : prim/sec/both
without driver: prim/both/both ( you can not select a standalone sec)

Before the new betea 1.1.xxx there was an issue with a left secondary display ( negative coordinates)

If you have time, try with 1.1.x beta.
There where many bug fixes

Thank you Rudi - I'm not sure I understand what is meant by "driver". Is this the mirror driver? Or what is it?

I think I do have the driver on the remote machine but it may not be properly installed?

Thanks!!!

mirror driver is only needed on the server site, viewer doesn't use it.
