[Resolved] UVNC can't find my system after changing my NIC

Post by bamim2 »

I installed a new 1Gbps NIC in my Windows XP system & now UVNC can't find that system except by its IP address. I'm sure it's still looking for the old IP address. I can ping the system by name. It shows up in Network Neighborhood on my other XP systems & in Network on my Windows 7 system. It even shows up find in my OSX systems. For some reason UVNC just won't find it. I've even tried reinstalling the latest version of UVNC & that didn't fix the problem either. I've also tried shutting down everything on my network & restarting it all, but that didn't do it either.

Does anyone know where UVNC gets its network info? Does it use NetBIOS or ??? Any suggestions on how I can get it to be able to work by name (without putting info in the /etc/hosts file that is)? This is driving me crazy. Thanks for any help I can get.

Just an FYI, name resolution is handled by the OS and not VNC. Name resolution services are typically handled via DNS, WINS, broadcasts, or static entries in a HOSTS file.

That's what I thought. I guess I should have rebooted of flushed the router, which is where the IP address are stored. I tried flushing the Switches, but duh, I forgot that they only hold the MAC address. Thank you very much for that info. It's always good to know how things work.
