SC Viewer?

Post by gmc4by »

We have been using the SC client for supporting our customers four a couple of weeks now, and aside from a few small glitches, it works great! We do, however, have occaision to use VNC in the other direction for training and demo purposes. It would be perfect if we had the option of an SC client that was for the viewer end. In this scenario, we have a repeater server or just a regular VNC server accessible to the internet, and a small program that the customer could download that would allow them to easily connect and watch while our rep demonstrated how to do something, or a program they may be interested in purchasing. Now, I have them download the regular VNCViewer, then they have to type in the address to connect to, and sometimes also specify a proxy server. If we were able to save the connect info, and possibly even reduce the size of the file (file transfer and some other options I don't think would need to be available) it would be perfect for our use. I don't know if we'd want to be able to embed the password or not, I do have our end setup to prompt to allow the connection. Would anyone else have use for this?

Thanks for all the excellent work done so far, you have already save me and my co-workers HOURS of troubleshooting other remote access problems (pcAnywhere, etc...)

Just to add a bit.... a VNC file would work, except that I don't want people to have to install the viewer. Also, if there is already a way to do this that I'm not aware of, i apologise.

Thanks again,

Hmm what if you 7-zip'd vncviewer up and made it into a SFX that would run "vncviewer.exe" followed by whatever command line parameters you needed to auto-connect to your target machine?

Also if you'd rather use a .VNC file to configure it, I'm sure you could 7-zip up the options.vnc and the viewer.exe then have the SFX run something like ".\vncviewer.exe -config options.vnc" (thanks redge!)

There are some instructions on creating 7-zip SFX's here:

To keep it simple, just download 7-zip 4.16b from here:
http://www.7-zip.org

And then the EasySFX creator from here:
