Norton issues - no opportunity to say "allow"

Post by JonD »

This is really an old topic (based upon my search of the news group)

An end user has (probably) a recent version of Norton installed. ChunkVNC gets blocked with (apparently) no option to allow. Asking this end user to change settings is not practical so I'm looking for something I can do to stop the problem.

I'm using a Linux based repeater... if the client & repeater are configured to use 443 will that help? Currently I have the port somewhere in the 5000's
What about the port for the Viewer...I'm assuming that stays unchanged?

What version of Norton was it?
Changing the port most likely won't help but is worth a try.
It's not surprising that Norton blocks things without giving the user a chance to allow it, the program sucks. :(

As to the Norton version... I can't say but the user just purchased a new net book so it would be a recent version.
I'll be talking to him again next week so I'll pursue this further.

Most of the folk I support are using AVG Internet Security so I found all (if not most) of the ways to handle their issues.
Every time I run into a user with Norton it's a challenge.

Roger that, keep track of the Norton version so we can do some further testing.
