Please oh please add a "Connect" button

Post by cheaha »

This a feature request for a command button that can be labeled "Connect" and will connect to the highlighted session.

I have added all text known to man, but clients are still having trouble understanding the need to double-click the session in the list. It's just not natural.

Thanks.

This is a feature I suggested as well in my post. Double clicking is not "natural" for people even if it's written down. A connect button would help a lot specialy with computer newsbies.

I agree - It seems minor, but it would be a big help!

Possible this cause more problems...

If they dont understand that they have to double click, how
are you will explain them that they have to select something.
I guess that they just press connect without reading anything.

At least they now have the menu on screen until they select
something...

1. Adding a Connect button would be following along the standards that windows dialogs have. I agree it should be added too.

2. I know there is the option if there is only one host that it auto connects. But I would like to see it skip the dialog all together - so they dont see anything, but the balloons giving them a status.

My .02 thanks.

The menu is responsible for reading the helpdesk.txt
and settings the corresponding parameters in winvnc.

No menu, no helpdesk settings.

The best solution for me personally would be to have a connect button and have the first menu item be the default selection.

That way if they do just click the button, they are selecting the default (most likely right) option. This would conform to most user's expectations and Window's conventions.

Don't know if it is possible but appreciate the opportunity to ask. I Love SC! Thanks for doing an awesome job Rudi!

I'd like to add my vote for a single button as well. If the end user has problems double clicking a selection (And some people do), then they are REALLY going to need our help! For some of us, that means either VNC, Or phone support. I don't embrace the idea of trying to give phone support to such a person. At least to me the whole idea of SC VNC is to remove the computer-illiterate user from the equation.

While I know it's sometimes human nature not to help an idiot, an idiot-proof 'click here' helps us all.

Double clicking in a list is not as natural as double clicking an icon. Having the two options won't harm anyone for sure. I dunno if it's hard to do, but that'd be a nice addition to an already rocking proggy ;)
I guess most of us won't have many host most likely one or two if you want to have encryption, the answer to multiple host is most likely repeater based rather than having a list of host. An other option could to have nothing selected by default, so they can't connect without selecting a host first.

Why not disable the 'Connect' button until a connection in the list is selected. Therefore they'll realise they have to do something before clicking the connect button but can still either double click or single click and click connect.

Sorry to be dredging this old thread up, but a customer of mine was having problems with her mouse so I talked her through the process of opening IE & downloading SC from my FTP and run it, all via the keyboard.

All went well until she had to select which PC to connect to and Double-Click it. Can't do that with no mouse, and I don't know of any way to execute a Double-Click with the keyboard. Anyone know if a Double-Click can be sent via the keyboard?

A button would be nice!

:-)

It really needs a connect button. Also, if you double click a "blank" row (not on a list item but in the whitespace), it shows the error message "No Vnc server selected".

You could just rename "Internet Support" in your helpdesk.txt to Double-click here for Remote Support. I just started working with this today and I found that to be a better option.

Also, if your not using the "Internet Support encryption", you can just comment it out so the supported users will not see it and you only have one link for them to choose. This is recommended for LAN only.

This doesn't help. The issue my customer is having is her mouse is not working, so she can't Double-Click with the keyboard.

I see now, I did not read correctly.

That is odd that once you tab to host window and select the link you want, you cannot hit enter to "double-click"?

Agreed, it is odd.

Please try it and let me know if you can start an SC session using without using the mouse. If you can, please let me know how.

Thanks.
