Use SC as server?

Post by Ares »

I was wondering if it was possible to use UltraVNC SC as a server as well. Say something like this:

[HOST]
1: Listen for connections
-noregistry

I don't exactly know the correct command line arguments to make it listen for connections instead of making it "add a client" like it does by default.

Is this possible, or should I just give the user a full-fledged copy of UltraVNC? I would just like to be able to make this an "option" for when I'm not at any of the machines that I have coded into the SC distribution.

Thanks guys,

Nevermind, just found the "UltraVncSC based on RC20+accept incoming connection - Require special Viewer (TO TEST)" on the main website. Sorry, I've been offline for a few days and haven't been checking things out regularly lol ;)

Accepting incoming connections

Post by Ares »

There isn't any special command I need to put in my "helpdesk.txt" to make it accept incoming connections, is there?

Thanks,

SC don't accept incoming connections, for that you need to use the full ultravnc.

SC+incoming connections is a viewer/SC change so the viewer
show a box with some info before you accept an incoming server connections.

Oops

Okay, well, is there any way to specify a host, instead of having to hard-code it into the helpdesk.txt?

Say if I'm at a different machine, and someone downloads and runs my SC, is there a way I can give them my IP and they can double click say "custom IP" and it prompts them for the IP?

An option to enter the IP address would add some nice flexibility! What I did to get around it was to use the repeater. I'm fortunate enough to have a machine with a domain name, so I run the reeater there. That way, the SC connects to the repeater, and I connect to the repeater, wherever I am. The weak link seems to be the repeater, which isn't quite ready for prime time.

I'm interested on your experience with the repeater, could you detail a bit more on that topic please.
I was condering also if the repeater could allow multiple viewer.

I wish I knew more about the repeater myself. It was difficult to get working, and it doesn't work with all my machines. I don't think it will allow multiple viewers to one server, but I could be wrong. Apparently it will allow more than one viewer to connect to more than one server.

Personally, I think the repeater idea is big enough to warrant it's own development, as opposed to a quick hack added on to UltraVNC. There are a lot of things that could be added.

Enter custom IP...

Yeah, I think that would be a great idea, and would also solve my problems. It would be cool if you could add a host that will ask for an IP when you double-click it, and you can tell the client to just type "1.2.3.4" into the box and hit OK.
