[Solved] Bug: User application do not stop after close

Post by Jack_ii »

Using 1.0.9.6 server and client
Server OS : Windows 7 64 bits (Fr)

Hi
Connecting to the remote machine (uvnc server service)
Launching my application (*) and working with it.
When closing the program, the window desappears normally, but the program stay active in the processes list.

When doing exactely the same actions localy on the machine (uvnc server running but no client connected), the problem doesn't appears.

An idea ?
Jack, Normandie, France.

Well that's very unusual. Can you tell us what the application is? Does it try to interact with VNC? Is it very graphical, does it launch UAC, etc.?

You could always turn on capture alpha blending, I guess, but that doesn't seem appropriate here....

Hi, B

I've just see that I forgot to speak about it, sorry : It's a payroll software, 32 bits, compatible 64 bits.
Application is not a sophisticated graphic program - Trying to show you with a capture : Here
A MDI (multi document interface) form, and child form for each data folder
Notice that, except it doesn't close properly, the program works fine (*), uvnc too
(*) no problem with data integrity it manages.

I've tryed this options with no result :
- Executing with XP SP3 compatibility mode
- DeActivating visual themes

Interacting with VNC : I don't think so. It's not basically a communicating software.

"Capture Alpha-Blending" is activated (I need it for an other program, Deamon Tools lite, but is not necessary for this one).
"Remove Aero (Vista)" is checked, too.
I've just try to uncheck these options - same issue.

UAC : No (not so sure). The program is accessible through non-admin users, datas it uses are stored on "public" user folder.
The active account has admin rights - I've tryed to start it with a "Run as" admin; same issue.

This program was working under XP SP3 and I have migrated to a new PC using W7-64.
The other programs installed on this machine are the same that those installed on the previous machine : ESET Smart Security, Norton Ghost, UltraBackup, MsOffice, PerfectDisk, DriveGleam, Boinc, ...
New printer too, so new drivers.
New programs (gadgets) appear, brought from the PC builder, Hewlett-Packard.

Funny case, isn't it ?

Try opening the server properties and unchecking use system hook dll. Restart the server and try again.

Great idea, SuperCoe
The problem is solved by not using hooking method.
Because of the 64 bits version of the OS ?

Now hooking is off, can you tell me what will be difference in every day use ?
Hook is used to influence graphical zone to be refreshed, implies only refresh speed ?
Is it right ?

Thanx a lot to you and Mr "B" for being on the lookout for users problems :-* Great!

Correct, system hook gives the UltraVNC Server a better idea of what programs are updating.
Since turning that off has fixed your issue you might want to consider enabling the full screen polling option and capture alpha blending so you still get good screen updates.
