TRUE solution for Ctrl-Alt-Del in Win7? + other issues

Post by doubled822 »

Hello,

I've searched these forums for a while looking for a solution to this. It seems to be common and some fixes work for others while some do not. I am looking for a solution to the ctrl-alt-del issue WITH UAC enabled. I am running the latest 1.0.9.6.1 version.

We have several Dell laptops and Optiplex PC's that we are going to be rolling out and I hope to have this solved by then. I did find in another thread that installing UVNC under a local admin user on the machine will correct the problem, and this has certainly fixed the issue for our laptops. However, the workstations are a different story. installing under local admin on them does not work. When I open up a VNC connection to the PC, it looks as though I can at least move the cursor around on the PC, but inputs actually do not work at all. I install with Vista addons and hook driver on the laptops with no problems. I haven't tried installing without either of these on the workstations.

I have also tried enabling SAS via Group Policy as these machines are in an Active Directory domain, to no avail. So that leaves me wondering, will the next release of UltraVNC finally have fixed these issues with Windows 7? I love UltraVNC and it serves us great for our Windows XP machines, but seeing as we have a deadline of rolling out Windows 7 by the end of October, I'm getting a little stressed with this problem as I may have to find a quick and dirty alternative. I have experimented with TightVNC, and it works perfectly--but does not support MS Logon (a security issue for the Credit Union I work for).

Now as long as Windows 7 has been out now, I am really surprised that there is no fix for this in uVNC in the current release. Is there an older version that may work the way I need it to? Has anyone else run into the same frustration I have? A registry edit that I missed somewhere (keep in mind, i need UAC to be enabled)? If anyone can help me with this, I'd be so greatly appreciative! Thanks for reading!

doubled, it's supposed to work already.

Are you sure you checked the usual settings, such as "disable Viewers inputs" under "Keyboard & Mouse" under Admin Properties on the server? Once that one got toggled on me somehow. When you say "the inputs actually do not work at all" I assume that extends to the Ease of Access and Shutdown buttons too -- if you can't click those, this would NOT have anything to do with SAS support, but instead is a view-only problem....

I will check those settings and confirm. Also, I didn't realize posts had to be approved first and thought my browser messed up and submitted another post--please disregard my other post request of the same issue. Thanks

I've checked the setting on Admin Properties for Disable User Input, and it was in fact disabled. I cleared the check box, and now I can access the Ease of Access button, and am able to send ctrl-alt-del via on-screen keyboard. The button however still did not work. I went into the settings again, and decided to activate the experimental Directx. When I clicked Apply/OK, I was prompted "uac is disable, fix registry" with yes or no options. Although we have UAC enabled, I clicked Yes, and UAC prompted me to allow the program to make changes to the computer. I clicked yes, so that may have fixed it also. This is the most progress I've had all week--thank you!
