Possible to view secondary monitor only? Automatically?

Post by danjeh »

I recently started working with UVNC and have been requested to do some reasearch.

What I am looking to do (if possible) is save a profile/configuration settings that will automatically launch/ login AND automatically ONLY display the secondary monitor of a dual monitor setup that it is connecting too... I've been playing around with the "VNCviewer Config File" but it wont save the particular setting where the second monitor is the only one showing..

Any ideas or help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you need to review Rudi's instructions at https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=28078

Thanks B,

Yes I do understand the instructions on how to switch. I am just curious if there is a way to store that information (that it is showing only monitor 2) in the config file so that when launched, it will instantly show the second monitor instead of having to switch too it.

I may be wrong, but it seems that's exactly what Rudi described in the link I gave you, namely:
Some people use non ultravnc viewers, no button to switch desktop.
In that case, they need to set the default via ultravnc.ini

ultravnc.ini
primary=1
secondary=0

p=1 s=0 -> show primary display
p=1 s=1 -> show both
p=0 s=1 -> show secondary

I guess the issue is how to set the default behaviour of the server...

Thanks for your patience with me B.

I have modified the settings accordingly in the INI file. However, when connecting it still will display both monitors... Below i have included my INI file which should be correct.

Please note i am currently running 10961 as it is the latest version avaliable on UVNC's downloads page. I notced that everyone was talking in the other post about 10962. this may be my problem entirly. Please advise. thanks

I also noticed in the ini that there is a "Primary" and a "secondary"... then lower in the list there is another "Secundary"... not sure if this is causing an issue or what the differences are? if any

I don't know what else to suggest -- this .INI file is on your VIEWER machine, right?

The .ini file is on my viewer machine. But still. With "Primary=0" and "secondary=1" I can not get it to connect by default to the second monitor...

There isn't an ini for the viewer, the suggestion by rudi is to modify the default server behavior.
Remember to restart the server process in order for the ini changes to take effect.

I have same problem. I have 2 PC with Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit OS.
I created on first Pc a second screen in Windows display settings and installed Ultra VNC.
I set primary=0 and secondary=1
When I connect from client I see or only primary or primary and secondary.
I would like to see only secondary
Do you find result?
Thanks It's very important for me because I will install this system on sunday in factory.

Hi There,

I have to same problem. Trying to set up output for only my secondary screen. It works when I write: primary=1
secondary=0
this let's me output only the primary screen. But when I want to output only the secondary screen I put
primary=0
secondary=1
it doesn’t work…

Note that I’m using the newest version 10962 for 64bit Windows 7 Enterprise. For the convenience I will also post my .ini file here(yes I did restart the service after saving my .ini file :D ):

If you use the "mirror driver" you have
prim
sec
both

if you don't use the driver you have
prim both

Without the driver
primary=0 secondary=1
act the same as
primary=1 secondary=1

I have Windows7 64-bit and this did not work after multiple installs and multipe reboots.

Is it required that "real" physical 2nd monitor attached when I want to serve up secondary only?

Check if your video card driver allow to overwrite the monitor detection, else the etended desktop is removed when you don't have a monitor attached.
