Help! Multiple locations for SC tool

Post by earl110 »

This may have already been answered and if so please post the link:D I'm trying to set up a server where my team and I can supply remote access support with SC from different locations. We have a server with a public ip im just trying to figure out how exactly I would set it up where each of our viewers would be in listen mode and having it where our clients can just open up SC click for support and we pick up. If I need to explain this better just let me know!

You might want to check out ChunkVNC - viewforum.php?f=50 if you're comfortable with the idea of a repeater, or if you don't need one, check out

SCPrompt - viewtopic.php?t=14809

With a repeater, each viewer/server pair would have a matching set of session IDs. Without a repeater, you'd forward unique ports at each target viewer's router.

So the repeater would sit with my main server and then each of our viewers would have a session ID that matches up to the SC?

Yes, it could work that way, or the repeater could sit on any other machine that both sides can reach. If you're familiar with how GoToMyPC and LogMeIn and TeamViewer work, the repeater represents the remote server that BOTH sides connect to. But with UltraVNC, the repeater can also alternatively site on the same machine as the server or viewer, if you choose.

I understand this and I am able to get the SC to connect to the repeater but I cannot seem to get the viewer to speak with the repeater. I've tried all that I can think of and am not sure what I am getting wrong.

Well, the repeater needs to be listening on two ports, both of which must be forwarded at its firewall/router accordingly. One listens for viewers, and the other for servers. I would telnet to the ports (or use ShieldsUp from the machine hosting the repeater) to see if both are really open. I think the ChunkVNC installation walks you through some of this...

They are both open and forwarded. I am using mode II. Also I checked out the guide and I didn't find what I was looking for it helped with some stuff. The real problem I'm having now is I'm unable to get my viewer to speak with my repeater. (viewer is on separate PC but on same network) I may be entering in the proxy/repeater info in wrong or may be getting it wrong on the VNC Server. If you know of a better guide on this particular issue just post it and I'll read.

That came out meaner than I meant. I really do appreciate the help and if you do have a good link I'd love to view it.
