Hi all,
I have installed ultravnc
Everything is OK with the viewer and IE or firefox through the LAN
But when I try to connect through the WAN I recieve a connexion error on the viewer
With IE or firefox, I recieve the Java applet but after an error message appears and says no response from the server on port 5900
I have a livebox Sagem with Optical fiber
I did my port Forwarding in it with
5900 TCP for the viewer
5800 TCP for IE or firefox
I have used this tuto, but no connection through the WAN

Merci de votre aide

No connection through the WAN
Re: No connection through the WAN
I don't know where that document came from but it appears to cover most of the cases.
Please understand that only port 5900 does the actual VNC traffic -- port 5800 just delivers the Java applet. So you have ONE problem, which is that port 5900 is not responding across the WAN. That is, the problem would exist whether you were using the full standalone UltraVNC viewer or the Java applet browser viewer.
Sometimes this problem is attributable to a local Windows software firewall.
One thing you can do is access the Shields Up service (google it) from the destination PC to probe those ports and see if they're both open.
Just to be clear, port 5900 needs to be forwarded to the local IP address of the machine running VNC server.

Re: No connection through the WAN
hi
in order to compare :
9 Stealth discard Discard
5900 OPEN! vnc access Virtual Network Computing
so the port 9 is OK but not the 5900 only Open instead Stealth
Help !!!!!

Re: No connection through the WAN
No, no, that's perfect. "Stealth" means the port's not responding, because nothing is listening on it and your router is blocking it.
If 5900 shows as open, that's the CORRECT response. It means your VNC server is successfully listening on that port.
So then something else is keeping your connection from working... I don't know the answer yet.
Have you tried running the regular UltraVNC viewer (vncviewer.exe) on your remote machine, rather than using the Java/web client?

Re: No connection through the WAN
yes I have tried the local loop and it is OK
I have also tried with a laptop on the LAN and it is also OK

Re: No connection through the WAN
That's not what I meant. I'm suggesting you try, from your remote location outside the server's LAN to use the UltraVNC Viewer (not the Java one via a web browser) to control your VNC server.

Re: No connection through the WAN
So you are calling the standalone UltraVNC vncviewer.exe "the viewer" and distinguishing it from the Java applet viewer? That was not clear from your posts -- both are of course viewers.
Try turning off all encryption and see if that helps. (FYI the Java viewer is not very compatible with encryptions yet.) You could also try an alternative VNC program (e.g. TightVNC).
