Best Free VNC Manager
Hi,
Just wondering what people are using to manage their VNC environment? I'm looking for a manager type application, nothing too advanced, just something that can store a list of VNC servers, with an alias would be good, i.e. the name of the user on that computer. And allow you to click on them, and connect with the VNC viewer (UltraVNC). Would be nice if you could enter your authentication detals either per machine, or per group. Doesn't have to do anything else, not even worried about it scanning for available VNC server connections.
We're currently using Dameware, but want to move away from it, and use UltraVNC because of the file transfer & chat capabilities. However, Dameware has the ability to save you connections in a list.
Something free, or at least cheap would be nice!
Thanks
Ben

Hi,
I'm looking for a good, free (if possible), VNC manager. We currently use Dameware, but it doesn't have file transfer or chat capability, and is expensive per license. So I've started to roll out UltraVNC to our workstations as a replacement remote support tool. It would be great if we had some management tool, that added each new connection to a list. It doesn't have to have loads of features, just someway of listing the workstations, maybe with an alias of the user who is on that workstation, then when you click on it, it launches UltraVNC, or whatever VNC viewer app is installed. Would also be nice if you could specify the username & password (if using windows auth) for each connection.
I've looked at applications such as SmartCode VNC Manager (quite expensive), and Remote Control Manager (can't get it to work). If anyone can suggest any other applications the fit the bill, I would be most grateful!
Many thanks
Ben

Re: Best Free VNC Manager
mremote (last free version) still gets my vote.
It does RDP, VNC, ssh, telnet, etc. You can use its built-in VNC viewer (Smartcode) or branch to another viewer.
mremoteNG is supposed to be its successor, but I've had issues with its colors (Mac screen looks all wrong).
In a classroom environment iTalc can be quite cool. There are one or two old posts of mine (in this subforum) that mention these and other VNC managers. And of course several VNC providers update their product information in this subforum.

Hi B,
Thanks for the reply. I'll have a look for mremote.
[EDIT:] References to Remote Control Manager containing spyware removed at request of developer.
Thanks

Re: Best Free VNC Manager
How did that happen? It's hosted at CNET/Download.com and they don't usually allow that...
Edit: CNet has turned rogue -- they are now an adware/spyware site! https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28692

Re: Best Free VNC Manager
Actually, my mistake, it's not Remote Control Manager, it was VNC Organizer. I installed a number of test VNC manager apps yesterday, and RCM was the last, so assumed it was that. However, performing another install of each shows that VNCOrganizerSetup.exe contains the following:
AskInstallChecker-1.5.0.0.exe
askToolbarInstaller-1.9.1.0.exe
chk.exe
FVM.exe
Installer.exe
ioClean.ini
PazeraToolbar.exe
VerControl.exe
After doing a scan using MalwareBytes, it seems to contain Adware.FunWeb, Adware.MyWebSearch & Adware.Agent. It modifies your IE home page, and lowers the security settings.

Re: Best Free VNC Manager
hi,
best ever seen and used -> VNC Address Book
even nice to create standalone vnc-links with saved connection data
very easy to handle
i use it daily more than once
https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9745
too sad, that it isn't supported / developed anymore

Thanks, kal10bach, I missed that one. Very interesting... Does it work with the latest UltraVNCs?
