I see several DSM plugins exist and I see some documentation comparing them but aside from not fully understanding everything there I haven't seen a comparison based on how you plan on using it.
In my case I have a UVNC server PC that I can access via any browser from anywhere by opening a web URL such as:
http://myname.dyndns.org:5555
I then enter the 8-character password UVNCserver allows and I can control my PC.
I want to improve password strength and assume some flavor of DSM plugin will do the job.
Knowing this, and that simplicity of setup (DSM for Dummies) is worth sacrificing some degree of encryption strength, which flavor is best for me & my application?
Thx all
RG

DSM plugins
Re: DSM plugins
I see you're stuck on using the browser (Java) version of the viewer for its convenience, but I believe that viewer is lagging behind in development -- in fact 1.0.9.6 was released specifically without an updated Java viewer.
The Java viewer in the past has not supported DSM plugins; I don't know if the new one will.

Re: DSM plugins
After much time learning more about viewer options (thanks guys) I have moved from the Java/Browser version (due to it's relatively insecure password options) and am now using the viewer app, which means my next lessons are in getting a DSM plug-in to work. So, let me please re-ask my question in better terms:B wrote:I see you're stuck on using the browser (Java) version of the viewer for its convenience... I see several DSM plugins exist. There is some documentation but I do not fully understanding everything there.
Please advise: If one flavor is super-easy-DSM-for-Dummies to setup I'll go there!
OR - If any version has perfect "for Dummies" documentation that will probably be just as good!
Thx all

Re: DSM plugins
SecureVNCPlugin the very easy to use for dummy but require uvnc 1.0.8.2 or above.
install the SecureVNCPlugin.dsm to exact same folder of winvnc and vncviewer (never sub folder)
just select it and update your vnc password longer and press OK on winvnc and select close winvnc
at vncviewer just select securevncplugin and input host to vnc server: host)
input securevnc vnc password and connected to remote

Re: DSM plugins
ChunkVNC is close to SuperEasyForDummies UltraVNC, with the big exception that it relies on a valid repeater setup. But the security is pretty much baked in.

Check. To "close" VNCserver I actually had to stop, then restart, the service. After restarting thge plugin was still selected in the admin properties.redge wrote:just select it and update your vnc password longer and press OK on winvnc and select close winvnc

Enter for server: servername.dyndns.org::12345 but now I get a VNCViewer Message Box that tells me "Server closed connection -The server running as an application"redge wrote:and input host to vnc server: host)
Never get this far.redge wrote:input securevnc vnc password and connected to remote
Could it matter if using 64-bit server, 32-bit viewer?
Is there a requirement for the key generation under CONFIG? (You do not mention it in your instructions above and on the website it says this is optional.)
Any ideas?
Thx!

Re: DSM plugins
Trying this next. QUESTIONS:B wrote:ChunkVNC is close to SuperEasyForDummies UltraVNC, with the big exception that it relies on a valid repeater setup. But the security is pretty much baked in.
Can the repeater be the VNCserver machine I want to connect to?
Must each machine I want to connect to have it's own repeater or can my home VNCserver be the repeater for any and all connections to whatever VNCserver I want to connect to wherever it is?
(Going to try it now, I *may* figure it out before you reply but maybe not!)

Re: DSM plugins
Yes, the repeater can be pretty much anywhere, on the VNC server, on the client, etc. It's a separate program. Many people run the Linux version of the repeater even while using Windows VNC software. But you DO need to forward ports to it so that people can reach the repeater.
Your single home machine can be the repeater for any and all connections to whatever VNC server you want to connect to, wherever it is, as long as you allow access to your repeater at your home router/firewall. There are also a few "public" repeaters such as those used in ChunkVNC's "ready-to-run" edition.
