Viewer on Wan

Post by mrchip »

I just set up the repeater on a permament server at work and when running the viewer on any of the lan machines at work I can remote connect to client systems in the wan. BTW....works so much better than the "SC" I was using before which was so frustrating with Vista and Win7 - KUDOS!!!

Here's the question: I copied the viewer folder to my home computer but cannot make connections to client computers (home---Via WAN---->Work Server-----Via Wan---->client computer). Have I missed configured something or was chunk not designed this way?

Thanks

I take it your repeater is running on the "Work Server"?

Is the ChunkViewer port open on the WAN to allow Viewers to connect on 5901 to the repeater?

As long as the repeaters viewer and server ports are publicly accessible on the internet what you've done should work just fine.

Thanks for the kudos. :D

Yes repeater is running on the "Work Server" (was able to make connections to client machines from viewer running at the "work server")

I'll double check the ports when I get to work. I was using Uvnc to connect to the "work server" from home. I turned off the Uvnc and then setup chunk to run on those open ports.

Also, make sure at the bottom of ChunkViewer it says "Using: your.wan.address"

You can right click on the ID pull down box and choose switch mode to get the other IP you compiled with.

Well I see one problem. When I came into the office the "Work Server" had rebooted so the repeater was not running.

Was going to run the repeater as a service but your FAQ warned against it. Whats the recommended procedure? Should I have the repeater start automatically via the startup folder? I'm running vista but will probably upgrade to 7 in the next lil bit

I should reword the FAQ. :P

I didn't mean to scare people away from trying to install it as a service, some users had problems, some didn't.
I run my Windows repeater as a user application and just start it in the startup folder.
