Windows Server 2003 crash on disconnect

Post by Bithunter »

I have a Win2003 R2 x64 with SQL Server 2000, Hamachi and VNC. I´ve configured VNC 64 1.0.9.5 the usual way (mirror driver, etc). When I close the client window (to disconnect) the server restarts. No logs are generated, just an unexpected restart (of the whole server, of course).

I´ve recently replaced that server, the old server has the same behavior, but I thought it will be gone with the new server arrival ... but it still occurs.

Any idea about what can be happening?

Thanks!

Try without the mirror driver.

The driver is the only part that has kernel memory access and can BSOD
the server...

Without driver is hard to manage remote screen (I have to manually refresh the screen continuously).

I have several similar servers, and they have the mirror driver and work fine (with similar software installed, even not exacly the same). I suspect of some other software, but not sure how can I test which is causing troubles when used simultaneously with VNC ...

One thing I´ve noted: Crash only occurs when VNC is configured to "lock workstation". "Logoff workstation" works with no problem, and "do nothing" also.

Could be a workaround?

Thanks again!

1.0.9.5.1 (current beta) fix (not yet available 64bit test)

*winvnc default server scale
*locksetting= GUI parser () exclusive single
0 - none
1 - lock workstation on disconnect (w2k/XP/w2k3/w2k8/vista/w2k8r2 Only)
2 - logoff on disconnect

only for your information (32bit only for now)

without driver
you should have schook.dll required for fast update without mirror driver

winvnc - Properties
[v] Poll Fullscreen
[ ] Poll Forground [_] Poll Console Window Only
[_] Poll Window Under Cursor [_] Poll On event Only
[v] System Hookdll
[_] Video driver
[v] Low accuracy

Winvnc - Admin Properties
With this settings you can keep follwing off
[_] Remove Aero
[v] Remove Wallpaper
[v] Capture Alpha-Blending
