Where is the file transfer feature in 1.0.9.5?

Post by Centauri39 »

I just downgraded to 1.0.8.2, because I can´t find any file transfer feature in 1.0.9.5.

What happened to this feature in 1.0.9.5, please?

Btw., I´m on XP Home SP3.

Both server and viewer need to run 1.0.9.5...

Sorry, even then, I didn´t get this feature.

The only working solution was to go back to the older version.

I don't believe,
you are not really connected to ultravnc server 1.0.9.5 with ultravnc viewer 1.0.9.5
I think you thinking had updated but is not true.

I just repeated the whole installation.

Trying to connect the older viewer leads into loss of mentioned feature.
Trying to use the current viewer opens the black remote window but right after that, I get an error message saying "wrong connection interface".
Closing this message makes the remote window close, too, so, in the end, I don´t get connected, anyway.

Let me add, I´ve set the server to wait some time to accept the connection.
In previous versions I was asked for the password after that delay, but now I´m asked prior to it.

Looks like the older UVNC version is the only one for me.

please try this build, let me know if better result
http://www.uvnc.eu/download/winvnc10951a.zip

this normal authentication must be before connect and not after,
before is a security bug solved.

start run services.msc
properties of uvnc_service
you should delay service name uvnc_service for let winvnc to be ready in case of dependency

Sorry, I must be more accurate, obviously.

I´ve never been asked for the password after the connection was established, I was asked after the delay, but before I was connected.

I´ll be back after I checked the zip you pointed me to... :)

EDIT:
Now, I checked the new files.
No solution, still "wrong connection interface".

EDIT2:
No, sorry, no chance!
All attempts to get this thing to work failed.

1.0.8.2 works perfectly, 1.0.9.5 does not.
So, I´m back again on 1.0.8.2.

you use a firewall right ?
wrong interface is related to firewall and not ultravnc as i was read on search engine.
so we can try to find and debug forever without any solution.

please tell to your firewall you have a new winvnc (even the winvnc exist, you must update your firewall to change the new winvnc file (size and date and content change and flag id change for firewall.
after update, maybe you can delete ultravnc and winvnc would recreate it.
your ultravnc.ini could have wrong security

No, I don´t use a special firewall.
It´s simply the build-in firewall of XP.
I guess, the only thing I could do, is to delete the winvnc entry, there, and after reinstalling 1.0.9.5, wait for the firewall to ask me to allow UltraVNC, to have a new firewall entry created for this UltraVNC version.
Right?

I´m not sure, if this is a matter of the used firewall.
You see, I had several UVNC updates before and I´ve never experienced this kind of effect until I tried 1.0.9.5.

how do you do before for change uvnc version ?

upgrade or uninstall full ?
if problem happen,
i always do the second choice...
uninstall...reboot...delete ultravnc... then install fresh uvnc

I still don't understand why you won't have FileTransfer working
I think you have changed something and you forget it.

where you have this message ? screen capture possible.
wrong connection interface

I tried both of these ways to install UVNC.
Still, I´ve never had a message like this.
1.0.9.5 is the first one I see something like this.

It´s not just that the file transfer doesn´t work.
It doesn´t appear at all.

I mean, there´s no button, where it´s supposed to be in the icon bar.
Each time, I´m trying 1.0.9.5, this button simply doesn´t exist, so there´s no way to initiate any transfer.

According to the error message, it appears as soon as I try to establish an ordinary UVNC connection between viewer and server.

It just came to my mind that maybe it´s because both computers I´m using, are in the same home network, but then I thought, no, previous versions worked perfectly under the same conditions, so this can not cause this fault, obviously.

wired or wireless connection ?
i did not see any network config

if FileTransfer button not exist
it mean the server is not ultravnc server or not really updated !
sometime people thinking there had updated but just extracted new file to ultravnc folder but no to good place where really sit the ultravnc or busy file and can't be updated at all.

are you really connecting to real computer you need to reach ?
Only you reported this bug.

did you try start ... open... cmd.exe (as computer administrator)
and input nbtstat -RR (upercase required) on both computers.

I´ve been using a desktop computer (server) together with a little netbook (viewer).
Both of them have been in the same home network and both of them were running XP Home SP3 and both of them were in a wireless connection.
But all this was also true for previous versions, which always worked perfectly.

In fact, I really updated UVNC. I also checked the version numbers of the exe´s to make sure everything belongs together.
I even uninstalled the previous one before the update, so, I didn´t just install or extract it over the older one.

Usually, I know, what I´m doing,... well, most of the time.

I know the difference between installing an application and just copying files, too... so, I´m no beginner. :)

Despite of this I don´t get this thing to work in the current version...

Like Redge told, Filetransfer depend on server and viewer version.

Viewer is backward compatible.
Viewer 1.0.9.5 can be used with 108 and 109 servers.
This allow to upgrade the viewer without the need to upgrade all servers.
When you upgrade the server to 1.0.9.5 you also NEED the viewer 1.0.9.5

The FileTransfer use the same port as the video
-independed of firewall settings " if firewall is bad you can't connect or see anything"
-independed of network type

Best way to check versions
When you click on vncviewer.exe, the caption bar show the version
"UltraVnc Viewer winxx 1.0.9.5"

If the server is running, click on the systray, about show the actual version.

VNc is often installed as service or started via the startup.
In that case, an older server version can be started before your winvnc
version is started, if you manual start winvnc you get an error
"already running" If you run winvnc as service, this message isn't visable
Your exe can be 1.0.9.5, but winvnc.exe running can be another version
(Start manual to verify)
But even then, server 108 and viewer 1095 should give a FT button.
Realy strange...

"wrong connection interface": Strange, i checked to code and we don't have that text in it... MS message

Perhaps something that also could cause it...
If you previous installed a vnclang dll (translation), this overwrite the gui interface of the viewer..

tested again:
server 108 +viewer 1095 -> Filetransfer active

Is the viewer 1095 working with server108 ?

I completely forget this option,
he did not tell us if had another language of OS or not and I forget too.
so should not install lang.dll in the folder \windows\system32 but good to verify. thanks for remember hints.

First of all, sorry for my delay. I´ve been busy on troubleshooting. ;)

Happily, I´m able to say:
The problem is solved.

The encryption plugin I´ve been using was too old, obviously.
I switched over to SecureVNC-Plugin.
Now, UVNC works again and finally the missing button is there, too.

But there´s one thing I don´t understand, yet:

To get connected, I have to enter the passphrase of the plugin, now,
not the password anymore I´ve once set in the admin settings of UVNC.

How come?

I mean, what is the password for, if I need the passphrase?

If you set a passphrase this passphrase is used
If not set, the standard vnc passwd is used.

The vnc passwd can only be 8 chars, using the plugin, we can use a bigger
passwd without breaking the rfb protocol.

OK, now I see. Thank you! :)

As for the plugin, do you recommend this SecureVNC-Plugin or do you prefer another one?
