Keeping people from shutting off Ultra VNC Server
Keeping people from shutting off Ultra VNC Server
hello, n00b here. I was wondering if anyone knows how to keep local users (limited) from closing ultravnc server from the taskbar? These computers are not on a domain. I just really need to keep them from right clicking and selecting "close VNC". Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Also make sure that they don't have the right to stop the service from the MMC. Personnaly I used SUBINACL to set custom rights on the winvnc service to allow the "Power Users" group members to start the server (in the eventuality it would stop) but not to stop it.
I also activated the automatic restart in case of failure (very usefull at the times the stability of winvnc was not what it is now ;-) ).

hmm, rc_20? all i have found is rc_19, where can I get 20?
also you mentioned the registry key, where in the registry is that located? I have gone through most of the registry and didn't find that, does it have to be created?
As limited users they don't have rights to mess with properties in the mmc, they can see them but they can't stop it. I have set the service to start upon crash indefinitly.
I have found a fix though at least for the taskbar, i found a page that shows how to totally disable icons on the taskbar (students use these comps and don't need them anyhow). Link --> http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/983/
Most of the students here aren't smart enough to do what i am going to say next but I still want to get it resolved. You can still go into the task manager and close the winvnc process. Now to try and fix this

CIO hates the idea that people will think we are "Spying on them" even with the "query window" sheesh..... small steps.. SC is working great.. then I will have the whole IT department saying we could do so much more if the person wasnt there.. lol
