Screen updates stop after Win2k server login

Post by TechFan »

I have a strange problem. I have just one Win2k Server (now updated with the last RC19 release) that is really strange. I can connect just fine, but when the server is at a login screen. . .it stops updating the screen and seems to freeze at loading settings. . .

In actuality the server desktop is shown on the actual monitor. If I disconnect and reconnect, then I am able to unlock the computer (locks on disconnection) and use the computer. . .but it is a pain to have to connect twice each time I want to connect to the server. . .

I am suspecting it has to do with the transition between using per server settings and per user settings. I really wish I could have an install that didn't have user settings.

Any ideas for fixing this one. . .I can't get it to happen on any other machines (this server was upgraded from NT4)?

If it is a user setting problem..

Remove the ORL registry keys
HKLM
HKCU
HKU .default

But:

RC20 should not use any user settings for the admin options.
If installed as service, system parameters should be used, independed of the loggen user.

I will try deleting those keys and re-setting it all up again in the morning. I tried that once before. . .maybe it is a registry permission thing or something. . .I didn't want to put RC20 on a production server until I have put it on a couple other machines first. Just got around to putting the latest RC19_7 on a couple machines today. I sure would like to find a good msi package install I could deploy to the entire network. . .via Group Policy.

I deleted all those settings, then only set the default system settings. . .logged out. . .then connected from a remote location. . .same problem. . .screen still shows loading settings while actually monitor already shows desktop. . .never catches up and refresh doesn't work. . .will have to test rc20 on a machine for a bit before I try that on the server. . .

EDIT:
Discovered another strange thing. . .I can't use the "new" mslogon on this machine. . .I tried it with a local group and a domain group and neither allowed me access.

EDIT2:
Also discovered computer responds to keyboard and mouse even though it is not updated in UVNC Client window.

I have the same issue. It's installed on two different win2k machines. Both of them have this problem. After login "not screen lock" screen goes blank and does not update. Need to reconnect to see the desktop.

Yep. Same problem. . .but only on one machine. I am not sure what it could be and Rudi was going to look at it after the v1 release. . .which still hasn't happened.
