Router setup for multiple computers...

Hey folks!

I have an odd request for some help. I'm not really a n00b to UltraVNC, but I am not completely sure I understand the concept I am trying to sort out. I will put it this way.

We have 5 computers here at home, 3 wired desktops and 2 wireless netbooks behind a Linksys WRT54G router. I would like the ability to remote into any of them using UltraVNC from anywhere I have an internet connection as I carry a portable VNC viewer on my flash drive.

Now, due to reasons regarding the way things work around home, I cannot set static addresses for all of the computers. Is there a way somebody can describe for me that would allow me to remote into any of the computers from outside the router? Like, for example...connecting to the router's IP and using individual port numbers to connect to specific machines? I KNOW that is possible...I've read many threads on the topic.

I do apologize for my lack of understanding, but I guess I just need somebody to spell it out in layman's terms for me...

The way my network had been setup previously, only the netbooks were behind the router and the 3 desktops were daisy-chained with bridged network connections essentially giving them 3 external, separate IPs I could connect to, but now that they are all behind the router I cannot understand how to get that same ability back

Well, I have managed to get it to work so I can connect with VNC viewing programs, however, I am getting an error on trying to connect with Java:

"Network error could not connect to server: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5900"

Let's say one of my comps behind the router is IP 192.168.40.40 and another is 192.168.40.41.

I have the router set to forward port 5901 to port 5900 at 192.168.40.40 and also set to forward port 5902 to port 5900 at 192.168.40.41 so I can connect to both computers externally. This works, however

For the JAVA part, I also have port 5801 forwarded to port 5800 at 192.168.40.40 and port 5802 forwarded to port 5800 at 192.168.40.41.

So, both required ports are theoretically open? Am I missing something?

Server and client are both running 1.0.9.5.

I noticed it's saying could not connect to port 5900, but Java uses 5800? What's up with that?

yes, internal redirection port 5800 redirect to port 5900

there no single port sharing, was exist but removed feature for unknown reason

So you're saying I should redirect the 5800 series ports to port 5900 as well?

I do have Port 5900 open already, and Port 5800, that's what I'm saying and is why I am confused

set port winvnc to 5901 rfb pc1 vncviewer connection
set port winvnc to 5801 http pc1 web browser

5801 - 5801 TCP 192.168.40.41 pc1

but your solution should work but can't without fix correct nat chaining redirection internal java winvnc

single port sharing would solve issue for everyone for http access with daisy chaining

Hey folks, it's been awhile but I think I have made some progress....ish.

I've stopped worrying about getting port 5800 to work as I have Portable UltraVNC on my flash drive anyway. On my router (Linksys WRT54G v3 running DD-WRT) I have the IPs of the 4 computers here in the house listed under Port Forwarding for both TCP and UDP. "Port from" for each comp is set for each external port I want to connect to on the router IP to VNC into each machine, i.e. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx::5910 = machine 1, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx::5911 = machine 2, etc.

In the "Port to" box, I have port 5900 listed as that is VNC's default port and all the VNC servers on each machine are set to port 5900. So, theoretically, if I were to be somewhere, open my portable UltraVNC and try to connect to xxx.xxx.xxx::5910 at the router IP, the router would redirect that request to the internal network to machine 1 at port 5900, right?

Is there something I am doing wrong here?

this limitation is for 5800 port (http server) not 5900
