Install uVNC as a stoppable (!) service for restricted users

Post by atrus2711 »

Hi,

I'm using UVNC 1.0.8.2 and a dyndns-account to help my friends & relatives on their computers. They run Win XP and use a restricted windows-user-account. I use Vista and can act as Admin or restricted user on my pc.

My plan was this:
Whenever they need help, they call me up and start Dydns Updater and Ultravnc Server (as App or Service). I connect to their pcs via dyndns-Webadress and fix their problems via remote acess. When I'm finished, I log off and tell them to stop uvnc and Dyndns Updater. So they can be sure that remote access is only possible when they need it.

Trouble is: restricted users don't seem to have the rights to start and stop the uvnc service and Dyndns Updater. If they try it, they get "execute as user ..." dialogs which disallow access for their own users.

All works well when the user uses an admin account. But that's not the way to go.

How can I install Uvnc (and Dyydns Updater) in a way that restricted users can start and stop these apps/services? If possible, the services should not be run automatically when windows starts, but only on request.

Thanks!
Martin

i dont see the reason for all this,
if you wand you can just set up dyndns address to to you and create a SingleClick or use ChunkVNC so user can start it when ti is needed only... futrthermore you bypass firewall from their side etc

Hm,
yes that's worth a shot, if Chunk/SingleClick provide the same or most of the features. At least file transfer is a must-have.

Gonna try that.

Thanks!
