Problem making tray icon disappear

Post by Archer »

We are trying to deploy Ultra across about 140+ systems.

in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\orl\winvnc3 I have put the disabletrayicon as a dword value of 1

The problem is that when I then test this by loging out and then back in to my computer. The tray icon is back. If I just kill the service and then restart it, it is just fine. We dont want our users knowing that we have installed new software and we dont want them to be able to change the properties of vnc once it is on there computer.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? We are using win 2k

Since the computer hasnt technically restarted the service - try rebooting the machine. This should have the new registry entry in use and the service would ultimately be stopped then restarted with the new setting.

In the Test versions of RC19.5/6 you can disable the tray icon from the settings within VNC, and not allow the users to view the configuration within the gui. What version are you running RC18?

rather than killing the service does rebooting work in your situation?

I reboot did not help, but I did install 19 today and it works just fine. Thanks for your help.
