Linux version?

Post by xlnt01 »

This great vnc distro only lacks one thing...
I would like to see a linux version of ultravnc. At least a ultravnc viewer that works with linux.

I don't think there is any use for a linux server...
But indeed, a linux viewer would be very handy.

The unix code graphical part X, differ from windows.
Whithout the knowledge of X-windows, it is a to big
job for Sam or me.

Perhaps someone else feels to make some mods on the standard unix viewer
1) user/passwd input field
2) file transfer
3) chat

Well...

I'm not sure we need a Linux viewer.

The JavaViewer featuring FileTransfer is going to be out really soon now, and Chat + MSLogon are quite easy to implement after that

Linux / Wine works really well, but there is ONE thing

Post by Progman3K »

Hi,

I use UltraVNC under Wine on Gentoo all the time because I can transfer files when connecting to a Windows UltraVNC server.

One thing that IS a problem when using Wine is that all Windows apps only have the basic Gnome system-menu:

Missing are all the extra commands that UltraVNC adds to its system menu.

Granted, many of these are accessible from the UltraVNC viewer's toolbar, but not all are: "Save connection info as..." is inaccessible, unless I am mistaken.

The .vnc files can be used to create launchers on Linux, which are functionally equivalent to double-clicking on a .vnc file on a Windows machine.

While you CAN make .vnc files with an UltraVNC viewer on a windows machine and copy them to your Linux box, this is cumbersome.

May I suggest adding the missing items on the toolbar?

While this may not make UltraVNC a Linux app, it will extend its functionality running under Wine.

Thanks for the great VNC client and keep up the great work, you rock!
