I'm trying to setup a connection to a home that has no internet access so that the electrician can program the software on a system that controls the home's lighting system. A friend suggested using UVNC.
I've done several searches on this site's forums & on the web about how to get UVNC to work with a dialup modem; I see some are using that method of connection but can't find anything on how to do it. I've installed UVNC on one of my system to test & to look at what settings are in the VNCserver ver & only find settings that will optimize slow connections. How do you get UVNC to answer a call in? This is on a W2K Pro system that has only a Win installed & a lighting control app.
Maybe setup hyperterm to answer incoming calls? Or something else?
Thanks for the help.

can UVNC answer a modem connection
There are a lot of questions that your post raises
1) Is that huge setup really practical? Its not that expensive to get systems that hook into your phone line, so when your answering machine answers it (heck, ANY cheap answering machine), you can press buttons and it does actions
2) Anything that'd answer the phone would, well, answer the phone. Do you have a dedicated line for this? If so, that seems like a pretty big waste, seeing #1
3) Even if you ignored the top 2 and wanted to use a computer system, VNCing into a computer to run some light control app is the most inefficient way to do it. What I would do is run one of the many free websevers on it (with a password of course) and just have it serve a password-protected page that let you click the lights on or off. Seems a lot less lightweight than all of that. PHP can handle controlling other applications via user input if I remember correctly.

From the posts you found about getting UVNC to work over a direct telephone connection... It took the guy a while to troubleshoot the issue and going back and forth between the computers.
Basically u need to install the Dial Up Networking Service and set up one computer as the "Server" and one as the "Client" DHCP services on that DUN connection and then really troubleshoot the issues that come up between the systems..
Its doable, not going to be easy and requires time from both ends not just one side to set up and ensure it works..
