MS-LOGON -How the heck question

Post by Immortal_Creations »

If i don't use the ms-logon i can log in fine. as soon as i select ms-logon, I add one user in Group 1 by typing in
computername\username, chose DOMAIN,click apply and ok. When i attempt to login, I get the authentication window with username and password, but it fails and locks me out after a few tries. I guess my question is, Is the Computer name (domain name) case sensitive i.e. computername\administrator and ComputerName\Administrator would one fail and the other not? The server is running as a service, firewall is turned off, ports are forwarded I just can't get authenticated. Could it also be an xp service (besides vnc service?)
Thanks,

With MS-Logon I you cannot specify computername\username but just username.
MS-Logon I automatically prepends the computername if you check "local" and prepends the domainname if you check "domain".

If you have no Win9x machine, you could also try MS-Logon II (AKA "new MS-Logon").
Here you can specify fully qualified names (computername\username).

It seems to work fine when setting up the server. I set up this server through a cable modem, Linksys router and two xp machines (home and pro) lemme know if this scenerio would work any other way. I checked Require Ms-logon, in the first group I typed computername\username and checked the Domain box. When logging in with the viewer, i put the IP address in, the username and password boxes appeared, I typed in the username and password (without the domain name) and I was authenticated ok and everything worked fine (slow at times, but at least i was in) Would you recommend using ms-logon II instead?
Thanks,

Hmm, since I made ms-logon II, I might be the wrong person for a recommendation
Test both and see what seems to be more appropriate in your case.
Some posts in this forum indicate that ms-logon II works faster.
