I've been using PcHelpWare for a little while now and have no problem building packages with the correct icons (while running on WinXP).
Today I tried to rebuild one of my servers on Vista.
Everything seems to work OK, except that the icons are not the ones I included. They're the standard uVNC icons.
A closer examination shows the following error from create.bat:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
c:......> replaceicon.exe PcHelpWare.sfx icon1.ico
ReplaceIcon - replace icon resource within file
Written by Miha Remec (mail@miharemec.com), july 2000
error: Could not update (add new) resource
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Is replaceicon.exe incompatible with Vista or do I need a newer version from somewhere?
BTW: I copied the folder to an XP machine and ran it w/o any problem.
Thanks!

PCHelpWare, Replaceicon.exe and Vista
Re: PCHelpWare, Replaceicon.exe and Vista
I experience the same excact behaviour.
Moreover, when the PCHelpware_server.exe is built on an XP machine, the icon is missing, when the resulting executable is put on a Vista machine.
Instead, Vista's generic executable icon is shown.
I suspect, that ReplaceIcon.exe is simply too old for making icons that show in Vista. I've searched for newer versions and alternative icon replacers, but to no avail - yet
Suggestions, hints for making an executable where the icon shows correctly also in Vista would be much welcomed
Thanks in advance
Dennis

Re: PCHelpWare, Replaceicon.exe and Vista
The author of ReplaceIcon had terminated the development of this tool, but issued a new tool called UpdateResource which claimed to be "the new and improved version of ReplaceIcon".
I don't know if UpdateResouce can do the same job in PHW, or if it can be running properly in Vista (I don't have this OS), for those interested may download it for a trial at the official site: www.miharemec.com/tools.html

Re: PCHelpWare, Replaceicon.exe and Vista
I can confirm that replaceicon.exe does not support icons for Vista.
I can also advise that Shell Labs Icon Changer does not work with it either.
It's a shame this product has been abandoned. For a free product it works quite well
