Hey guys,
I am fairly new to UltraVNC, but have some experience with VNC.
I have UltraVNC installed on a number of Windows 7 Pro boxes. The installation goes great. However, when I set the password on the machine and then attempt to VNC into that machine from another, I immediately get a message saying that the authentication has failed. It doesn't matter what I set the password to I get the authentication failure message.
I have disabled the UAC.
I have checked the ultravnc.ini file and the password hash changes when I set a new password but it doesn't seem to affect my ability to VNC into any of the machines I have ultravnc installed on.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be?
Thank you
Cheers

Re: UltraVNC Windows 7 Pro Authentication
Okay nevermind. I figured out the issue and it was nothing to do with UltraVNC at all.. it was an old install of VNC that was causing the issue..

Re: [Solved] UltraVNC Windows 7 Pro Authentication
damn. I'm having this issue. I had RealVNC on here but the password was the same password I'm using on UltraVNC. Is that all you had to do was uninstall the old VNC? How the hell does a password error have something to do with an installation unless they both were running using 2 different passwords? I'm so confused
Re: [Solved] UltraVNC Windows 7 Pro Authentication
Many versions of VNC use the same historical registry keys and possibly INI files (The keys are of the form ORL, for Olivetti Research Labs).
Uninstalling the program and/or and cleaning out the registry are good ways to set things back cleanly.

Re: [Solved] UltraVNC Windows 7 Pro Authentication
So is there a guide or something that can lead me into full clean of VNC? I've only installed VNC and set a password but always getting VNC Authentication Failure. I don't understand. It's confusing as hell. Every other machine with XP though I've just installed XP on, I just set the VNC password (using RealVNC though) and it works fine.
Re: [Solved] UltraVNC Windows 7 Pro Authentication
Did you have RealVNC on your Win7 box, and now are putting UltraVNC on it?
If so, uninstall UltraVNC, uniinstall RealVNC, search your registry for all occurrences of the ORL keys (e.g., HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL ), and delete them all. Also go to your Windows Services and stop/disable any remaining WinVNC or UltraVNC service. Then search your drive for any remaining RealVNC or UltraVNC directories and files, particularly INI files.
Do all this as an administrator.
If you weren't mixing two versions of VNC I don't know what to suggest.

Make sure your "VNC Password" is different from your "View Only Password".
