UVNC Managment Console.

Post by Support_stiff »

I am looking for a tool that I can add vnc to an easy clickable with saved credentials or the ability to pass in my current windows credentials to computers.

I am open to any suggestions about shortcuts or any other simple ways of managing connections. I have about 100 computers i connect to and typing in the computer name every time is getting annoying

There are lots of products or projects that do that sort of thing.

One I've liked is iTalc.

Another, probably more fitting for you, is mremote or mremoteNG.

Those applications look like what I am after.

I forgot to mention I am using the SecureVNC DSM plugin. I am having trouble getting that to function with mremoteNG

Wow, you got mremoteng up and running with your test scenario, and posted about it, in under 10 minutes? :)

mremote and mremoteNG use particular VNC viewer engines; one is SmartCode and the other I forget. You'll have to live with the limitations of those engines as far as I know. I wouldn't count on being able to get native SecureVNC DSM support.

One workaround to add encryption might be to ssh tunnel the connection before launching mremote.

Of course, at least one of those apps is still open source, so you can try to patch in something like UltraVNC viewer -- if you do, <b>please</b> share it with the rest of us.

OK. I got mremoteNG running with UVNC and SecureVNC DSM plugin. I am running into a snag with the connection window and viewer window. The connection window opens in the panel in mremoteNG and the viewer window opens separately. When/if I can figure out how to integrate I will post how i got it working. I still need to play around with credential management.

You can register Uvnc as an external application.
then if you pass in the arguments. -dsmplugin <dsm plugin name> %Name%
you can get it to launch uvnc with the appropriate DSM plugin and the only prompt you should get ,as long as you make the system name in mremoteNG as the hostname, is the prompt for a username and password (unless you enter them in).

Great. But I gather it's still launching the viewer as an external application? So you can't really tile it with the other child windows within the mremoteNG window?

Correct. I think it has to do with how UVNC is written. Having that separate window for the connection kinda messes things up.

It would be nice if vncscan supported DSM plugins rather than just having a check box that says 'Server uses encryption' with a true/false option.

VNCScan does use the DSM plug-in. When you check that box, it transparently uses the DSM plugin for encryption. The DSM plugin is automatically deployed using the deployment wizard when selected in the deployment profile, also.

It's just made so simple that you can't see what's happening, I guess. :-)

that would require me to uninstall all of my VNC installations. What VNC is wrapped up in VNCscan? Does it use a driver or hook?

You can deploy it with the driver enabled. The latest UltraVNC is what it uses by default. You can choose other flavors but most people stick with UltraVNC.

When you deploy UltraVNC over your network with VNCScan, it automatically removes whatever is there and installs the version that is bundled with that version of VNCScan.

As long as you're doing this on a LAN with no firewall blocking access to the computers (and you know the administrator username/pass on the computer(s)), it should be a piece of cake.

Let me chime in and remind everyone that SmartCode VNC Manager can do remote VNC deployments and supports NTLM authentication.

Currently our VNC viewer supports DSM MSRC4 plug-in only. But we are working on adding support for SecureVNC DSM plug-in and it should be available shortly.
