Control user and Viewer user

Post by JamesBrown »

Is there a configuration that would allow a single user with VNC Password at a time but several View-Only Password users?

I have a problem when several VNC Password users attempt to control hardware on my computer.
Thanks.

I think that's the standard configuration. View-only people can view, and administratively passworded people can control. You just give the passwords appropriately...

But does that allow more than one admin. user? That's what I'm trying to stop.

Not sure (I don't think it prevents that) but if more than one person has the admin password, AND you don't trust them to misuse it, then you've got to completely rework your approach. I'd suggest either using a VNC reflector, or perhaps one of the MSLogon options might help - not sure.

That would be a handy feature for VNC though -- "handing off control" to one person at a time. The commercial services have that feature, but I don't think I've ever heard of that in VNC.

Thanks B. I'll look into the MS password options.
Its not that I don't trust the users it just that only one person at a time can change my receiver frequency or move the antenna and as far as I can see a admin user would not know that another admin user is on line at the same time.

Just spitballing on this one, but maybe two different instances of a VNC server (running on different ports), one for the administrators one at a time (set to "Refuse the New Connection") and one for multiple viewers...

But you can only have one instance of VNC running at a time.

For those view only user ....

Since the View-only user cannot control the server pc in anyway, that means the server pc must be always logon-ed, and has those information on the screen already, so that the View-only user just connect and get this information only.

Is this your scenario ?
