Need help with UltraVNC

Post by Tboy »

I just set up UltraVNC, using a Dynamic DNS, it is the first time I have used it, the vnc server is on my business system and viewer on my home system.

Is it possible to access the computer in my mothers home from my business VNC Server, or do I have to set my mother up with an Dynamic DNS.

VNC Setup??

Post by Tboy »

Can you give me a little more detail............. do I have to open a whole new .dyndns.org account for her?
Idealy I would like to access both mother, mother-in-law, brother and sisters computers. Would each one need a seperate dyndns.org address?

I could write for days and still maybe not give you the detail you want.. so I will summarize.

If you want to connect to a computer outside your business network via ultravnc a few basic thigs must happen.
The computer you wish to connect to must have the UltraVNC or VNC compatable server running on it.
The computer you wish to connect to must have responses on the port you specify on that application or service. (this could require port forwarding on a router)
You must allow socket connections to the computer you wish to connect to. (By default it is on)
You must allow any firewalling software to allow the port you wish to use to properly connect to the VNC server.
You must know the IP address of the WAN router of the device or utilize a SEPERATE dyndns account. This dyndns account is tied to your network. You can not have two seperate networks with the same account because you shouldnt have two IP's only one.
If you chose to use DynDNS you must either have a router that will support it and log in, or you must run the app on the remote computer. Again allowing this program to communicate if firewalling is on.

On the viewer computer. You must only know the IP addy : port for application and any encryption you are using on the server.

Type in IP:Port if it isnt the standard port and as long as there are no outbound firewall rules blocking the port you are trying from your business network you should be good to go.
