I do not think everything is fine with that. Virus, rootkit, registry fault?
Tried everything: restart winvnc. restart service. reinstalled whole prog.
rootkit search. virus scan. At last, uninstalled and installed newer version - this strange, unknown, gray starfish tray icon returned. ( "magnifying glass" tray-icon when client is at the other end of the cable)
Where does it (probably) come from?

Re: ultravnc shows up with STARFISH tray icon ..?
Have you cleared the icon cache? With any luck that's all it is.

Still XP running here, but worked similar; ... and did not help.

Yeah, it's basically the same in XP.

And you rebooted too? I don't know.
You're saying it starts as a "starfish" and then someone is able to connect and it turns into a "magnifying glass"?
I'm thinking maybe registry weirdness? After uninstalling, make sure all those various ORL hives are deleted.

Y. Restricted by Windows firewall to LAN, but who believes ..B wrote:.. it starts as a "starfish" and then someone is able to connect and it turns into a "magnifying glass"?"
Now, some reboots later, ALL ORL hives removed (what-in-hell does "ORL" stand for? hello developers: why ain't they AND THE OTHERS removed by "uninstall"??? HEY?), all "WinVNC" "UltraVNC" entries and (oops: did I remove all "uvnc"?) anything what else I could find ..: The "gray starfish tray icon" returned on re-installation.
OOPS: the "iconcache.db" file did not re-appear!? Should it, in XPSP3?
I am not amused, i.o.w. distrustful. Hi "NSA", how are you .. (Oh, BTW, U NO the name of their hive?)
Who 's got another idea?
