changing routers, no more uvnc, newbie

Post by rudievissenberg »

I have been using UVNC to my great satisfaction on my Lan network.
I installed it and it worked from the first moment. I needed to change the router of my network and all of a sudden it cannot find the other PC anymore.
I am only working on my home network and do not need external access. How come it worked flawlessly on my previous router, and still does when I put it back into place, but not with the new router?
Do I need to change something in UVNC?

Your help is most appreciated from a newbie in networking.

You didn't provide a lot to go by, but here's my guess:

1. Your old router handled out IP addresses to your machines, for example, 192.168.0.101 and 192.168.0.102.

2. You set up UltraVNC to go from one machine to the other based on those addresess (particularly the one of the target/server PC).

3. When you installed the new router, it also willingly handed out IP addresses to your machines.

4. But it happened to hand out different adddresses, for example, 192.168.2.2 and 192.168.2.3.

5. Your VNC Viewer is still trying to reach your target PC by its old IP address.

To confirm this theory, hover your mouse over the UltraVNC icon on the target PC - it should list every IP address it's "listening on". Then go to see if any of those are the ones your viewer is trying to use. Then just type the new address into the viewer, and you're done.

Thanks for the info. I tried this myself before. Typed in directly the ip address of 192.168.01.100 but this did not work. This time I lowered the dhcp number to below 100 and by typing in the newly given ip address of the server the viewer found it directly. Thanks for your help and quick response!

Happy user of UVNC again
