Awesome, glad to hear you figured it out.
Sounds like you could use a reinstall of Windows or a thorough OS cleaning but I have seen certain older hardware randomly hate Vista/7 especially Nforce3/4, Via and SiS chipsets.
I suggest you stick with just Avira antivirus, I don't really think anyone needs more security than that on a desktop but thats just me... It would have saved you this headache!

Only thing is, I thought you had tried it from multiple PCs?The windows firewall doesn't block outgoing connections so you'll be ok with that on. I've seen ZoneAlarm continue to block things even when disabled, try uninstalling completely.
