I have started Ultra 1.0.8.2 on one computer and then the Viewer on another both behind a router. I have configured port forwarding on the router and can access the server using the routers external IP address.
So far so good. The server is running on Vista.

I need to allow access to a small group of people (about 10) none of whom are within the same domain as the server. They can only be on one at at time because they will be controlling the movement of an antenna and microwave receiver. I don't want these users to be able to get on the local net and then into my other computers.

Now the question. How should I set the server up? I could have a seperate Vista user for each member. I could set up group access. I could set a single Vista user and have them all use it. It would be nice to allow 'View Only' for others who are not the hardware controller at the time.
Any suggestions?

It sounds like you need an "appliance" mode of operation, where the controlled "server" machine isn't really attached to much of the rest of the network.

I might just make it a standalone ("workgroup") machine rather than a domain member, have it set with very limited rights, and set up local Vista accounts for each user (assuming you want individual control and logging). I'd probably stay away from the MSLogin integration for the above reasons, and just have a known shared VNC login for the VNC service itself?

Obviously if the remote users are reaching your target server, they will be "on" whatever logical network that machine is on. Whether they have access to domain resources or other servers is another story. Also be sure everything is cool with any IT department involved.

I suggest 2 users:

* 1 user as computer privilege for who are allowed to control
* 1 user limited access for who are allowed to view only

you can also filter by ip address for users arent't allowed to control for higher security.
