SingleClick + Secure Connection stays unencrypted

Post by Cleo »

Hello!
I am trying to establish a secured connection between a Laptop with SingleClick and a PC in Viewer (Listen Mode Encrypt).
The Problem is that when I start SingleClick and connect, a message on the PC appears and tells me that the incoming connection is not encrypted. So I guess there is something wrong with my SingleClick rc4.key file.
Here is what I did:
- UltraVNC security settings --> Use MSRC4Plugin.dsm
- Configuration --> "Generate New Key" ("new_rc4.key")
- Renamed the new key to rc4.key in the UltraVNC folder
- Used the rc4.key to generate the SingleClick.exe

However, the connection can be established and I can control the Laptop. It's just that I want it to be encrypted ;)
Any1 got an idea what I forgot or made wrong?

Thx!

Hi Cleo,

Same question to you, why do you use the old encryption plugin from 2006? Did you see this thread here already:

[topic=15840][/topic]

You can download the new plugins from here:

http://adamwalling.com/SecureVNC/

In my opinion, they are a bit more userfriendly. Just give it a try. :wink:

Thank you, but I need to use SingleClick and it seems that it only can work with the MSRC4Plugin...

Thx for your reply!

Edit: ok I have figured out one mistake: I forgot the "-plugin" parameter in the helpdesk.txt file.
However, the connection attempt now fails at the "Connection failed - Error Reading Protocol Version" thing. It says that I should check if the DSMPlugin versions are the same...but I can't because I don't know which one is used by SingleClick...

Edit2: I think i have traced the problems origin: the MSRC4 plugin seems to have another version between SingleClick and the current UltraVNC version. Is there a place where I can download the old one which is used in SingleClick?

Edit3: Here [topic=15865][/topic] I read that the used rc4 file must be the one from the custom.zip archive (on both sides!). Now it works.
Maybe you should add this hint on the mainpage.

false
you can just rename securevncplugin.dsm to msrc4plugin.dsm and you have the both advantage. no static key but dynamic key

Hmm, I wonder if that trick would work with ChunkVNC too...

I don't see why not, but I think supercoe opted out of using securevncplugin.dsm firstly because of the file size and secondly I believe problems were experienced!

Right, but I didn't think it was a showstopper in and of itself if one were willing to live with it. But at some point I thought he had said something like it wouldn't work at all with ChunkVNC....

The problem with SecureVNC is if the server connects to a repeater before the viewer does it will cause the server to crash on exit. It has nothing to do with the filename.
