turbodonkey,

I'll see what I can do to get around this, maybe a simple detect/disable/enable would suffice...

Zyxyx,

As I'm a fan of simplicity I prefer not to have the person that requires help to fiddle with a menu. At this point I've ditched the ID scheme for a "list of connected people" stay tuned.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I couldn't find this as a working feature, so figured I'd put it in as a request for a new feature.... If this is the wrong place, I apologize.

I'd love to be able to control (lock and unlock) the "other end's/person connecting to's" mouse access...

kohn,

When connected the viewers toolbar gives you a button to "disable remote screen and input" sadly it only seems to blank the monitor in my testing (Vista32).

This is an issue that must be fixed by the UltraVNC devs, I'll bring it up as a bug.

Is support for the SecureVNC plugin planned? It should be much more secure than the MSRC4 one. Of course it only makes sense with the server variant (public key with the server and private key with the viewer).

In this case even a non private repeater should be no problem.

Btw. I suppose that the MSRC4 plugin doesn't work with Mac version? Are there any plans?

faba,

I experienced crashing problems while using the SecureVNC plugin. Redge has confirmed the issue but it has yet to be fixed.

Mac InstantSupport is based on x11vnc which doesn't support DSM plugins...

User suggestions are pushing me towards using stunnel for the future...

Feature Request: I will keep it really basic and not go into how to implement it. At the Customers end you bring up a list of portable custom tools e.g. ZIP files, single EXE's that can be downloaded and executed to sort out the specific problem! They would be hosted at the same location as ChunkServer, so apps could be added/deleted to suit your requirements as a Technical Guru!

guinness,

Great idea, we could have ChunkServer just send out a directory listing from a specified folder.

I have a feeling that once we get the ChunkServer bugs ironed out it will be the best feature by far.

I simply got the idea from here [topic=15852][/topic] :) If ChunkServer works well then yeh it should be pretty easy to implement.

Oh heck yea, I preorderd the game awhile ago, I'm a big BF2 fan and Bad Company 2 has put a major damper on my programming as of late. :P

That's too Bad... Company  for you right now. :P

Because, as many other people here (coming back to these webpages several times a week), I'm very impatient to try and use ChunkVNC 4.0, so I hope it's still in active development and it's not slowing down like so many other attempts for a renewed Single Click / Instant Support solution before.

I'm confident it's not and I thank you for all the work you have already done on this project. If you need some help to test the new version or to fix some bugs, I'm not the only one ready to help.

I'm not a developer myself but I saw that more people are ready to join and help with the project (once they have access to the SVN via Google Code - http://code.google.com/p/chunkvnc/) ; 'nfhm2k' asked for it here : [topic=17342][/topic]

As you see, I can't wait... :surprise:

Keep up the good work !

Zyxyx,

Releases are the only thing that have slowed down at the moment.
Development is moving along strong, I'm in the process of adding the new devs to the SVN so the project can move forward faster. :D

Sorry to everyone that has been patiently waiting, I assure you that development of this project is not ending! There have just been so many feature requests because of the popularity that I would like to implement.

You get one feature working and then you have an idea for another feature, such a vicious circle :)

Compile>>NOT TESTED

Code: Select all

While $Enthusiastic = True
	For $Idea = 1 To $AllIdeas
If $Enthusiastic = False Then ShutdownProject()
		$AllIdeas += 1
	Next
WEnd

lol

Code: Select all

While Not $Working
    If $FreeTime > 0 And $LongDay = False Then
        ProgramChunkVNC()
    Else
        PlayBadCompany2()
    EndIf
WEnd

AutoIt Function Idea: I found this ... _FileInstall_CreateFileList UDF, it''s a simple function made into a UDF which only requires a Source and Destination, both from what I can see are recursive, but it will save you having to list all the files and simply point to a folder!

Also I have been playing around RunBinary.au3 its ideal for non-AutoIt executables, but haven't tested extensively, it would eliminate the need for the dreaded FileInstall ;)

guinness,

Neat stuff, FileList might come in handy.
I'm not sure if RunBinary will work in our situation as the server executable relies on more files than just itself.

Another AutoIt idea, with the whole locking of file(s) problem, how about using _WinAPI_MoveFileEx() contained in WinAPIEx UDF, it will add the file to the registry so on next boot it will be deleted.

I'll look into it but I doubt these functions will work without being elevated on Vista/7.

Works on Win2000/XP/Vista & 7
It adds the file to the registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

Plus the RunBinary would cause problems for a lot of people.

We would require elevation to edit HKLM so it wouldn't work under normal running conditions (without installing service or elevating)...

I've already isolated that the hook.dll is only locked if the viewer isn't closed before the server is sent -kill. One of the reasons for ChunkServer is to allow InstantSupport to close the Viewer and then -kill the server.

Yeh, OK now I understand. I am so used to running as Admin and rarely touch the Registry. I have been looking at the WinAPI calls in AutoIt and some have been very useful. It's also nice to see working examples in AutoIt, MSDN can be a little overwhelming.

I don't know if you have ever used Obfuscator? But I did for the first time the other and it reduced a binary file of mine from 430KB to 320KB! I knew about it but didn't know how good it was. I have always been concerned about using include files such as Misc.au3 and File.au3 when only using 1 or 2 functions and wasting the rest, this eliminates this problem, by stripping unnecessary functions etc.

Put at the top of your script.

Awesome thanks guinness!
And here I thought the Obfuscator was just for creating confusing code.

I was going to create something like this but a UDF has already been created! ContextHelp.au3, to simply explain it creates a '?' in the Title of the GUI i.e. near the Close, Minimise, Maximise buttons that a user can then use to select a control or area and it will display a short but helpful description of what it does or is to be done!

Shame there is not a UDF for education on reading the help file :D
It probably isnt useful in InstantSupport!
