I've been trying to set up VNC access to two Windows 7 machines remotely and I'm having a terrible time getting it configured. It's pretty straightforward, so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
They both are running UltraVNC 1.0.8.2, but with the same password. One machine is using port 5900 and the other is using 59001. I have set up the proper port forwarding to each IP address in the router.
They are both also using Remote Desktop and I'm not sure if this is a factor or not. These are my own computers, and basically, I wanted to use VNC to sort of "preview" the desktop and see if my girlfriend is using the computer first. If so, then I would disconnect for the time being. Otherwise Remote Desktop would just kick her off completely.
They both are behaving similarly, so I will describe the one computer and go from there. On the machine that uses 59001, if I am connected with rdesktop, I can VNC successfully, but this is redundant. If I disconnect the rdesktop session, I still can continue to see the desktop and move the mouse in VNC (I am controlling it from work on FreeBSD), but I cannot click on anything.
Now if I try it with rdesktop closes, VNC connects successfully, but it's a black screen.
I've also gotten at various times:
Your connection has been rejected.
Authentication failure
Other times, the window opens for a second and then it closes with no warning.
On the machine that uses port 5900, it just tells me Authentication failure, even though I'm 100% certain the password hasn't been mistyped 100 times in a row. I even reset the password to it through an rdesktop connection and it still doesn't work.
I'm pretty much at my wit's end and I've searched numerous posts that don't apply to my situation, that's why I decided to make my own post here. I can't seem to figure out why this is so difficult.
Thanks in advance, I hope.
