Hi there,
Greets to every one as I'm new to this forum and this is my first post here.
I can't install UltraVNC on Windows 7 at all. Each run of setup program ends with "Setup was unable to create directory C:\Windows\TEMP\[something]. Error 5: Access denied".
I'm pretty sure that this is Windows 7 related problem, as I installed UltraVNC on Windows XP a day a go with using exactly the same setup file and installation went with absolutely no problems!
I've tried both x86 and x64 versions, launching them as either normal user or administrator. Completely no effect.
Strange thing that UltraVNC (or - to be precisely - ISS which UVNC uses as installer) even in these days uses temp folder read from TMP / TEMP system environment variable (points usually to Windows folder) as since Windows XP (or even W2K) it should use registry entry of temp folder (which usually points to some folder in user folder - i.e. in Documents & Settings or Users).
Even so - I'm pretty sure that this is ISS installer related problem or its cooperation with Windows 7. I've changed TEMP and TMP system environment variables to point to C:\TEMP (which I created previously) and got the same error message with of course changed dir.
It's even stranger that in both situations (original TEMP/TMP pointing to C:\Windows\TEMP and crafted one pointing to C:\TEMP) I was able to save files and create subfolders in these folders while UltraVNC setup program was arguing that it can't create directory in them, each time I tried (both as admin and regular user).
Can anyone tell me what is going on and how to work around this problem? Is there any way to force setup to unpack files to a specific directory or is there any ZIP-commpresed full version (not viewer only) to do manual installation of UltraVNC?
Best regards to all,
Trejder

Re: Can't install UltraVNC on Windows 7
Hi everyone!
It turned out that the problem lies somewhere in my Win 7 configuration (yes I'm using final version), but I don't know where and it acts strangely (as nearly everything in Windows! :). It turned out that installer refused to install program when it was launched from drive D: (second partition, next to system one, on my bulit-in hard drive). When I moved installer file to another partition (on USB hard drive, not tested on system partition) - all went with no problems.
Really, really strange situation and I don't even have idea where to start looking for a possible solution? Never had such situation (I've been using computers around 20 years now) that an installer refused to install program (or to create temporary directory in this particular case) when launched from a particular drive and installed it with no problems, while started from another one.
Best regards,
Tom
